I think I read somewhere that George Mitchell wanted to talk to 80 players (most current, some former) in regards to steroids.

"So, what's going to happen when inevitably one of our own turned out to be on 'roids?"

You mean like Alex Sanchez?

Do you think anyone has stopped taking steroids or HGH because of all the scrutiny of the last 3 or 4 years or the most recent labor agreement? Watching the Cub/LA game on ESPN the other night, one of the anouncers stated that the MLB HR total is on pace to be 500 less than last year.

Patrick425, homer probably 'heard it' by reading the article linked to in your thread. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

MarquesJohnson2000, the logic behind the alcentral tag is that even with our brand-spanking-new 100-tag limit, there still isn't room to tag individual teams or players from other teams. alcentral catches the fact that this is a Blue Jays topic and that Troy is a Jay.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I've said this before but it's worth repeating. The best way to get steroids out of the game is not as simple as testing. If major sports are really serious about abolishing steroid abuse it needs to implement an investigative branch modeled after actual narcotics divisions in police departments. There is enough information out there to link players to steroids if they are using. All that needs to be done is for the major sports leagues to REALLY be serious about it. The model is there on how to find and prosecute this type of crime without the use of testing. I'm saying we should stop testing. I'm saying testing isn't enough. There are plenty of ways to do more. If law enforcement and the press can find it so should MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL. Not only would it cach those who actually are cheating but it would act as a bigger deterant than tests players know are not adequate.

The NFL will never break open. Do you really think they want to return to the 6'0" 260lb lineman? They like their 6'6" 340lb tackles, thank you.

Do PA's help people grow taller? Serious question I don't know.

Even if it does to say no one wants to watch 6' 260 lb lineman is simply not true. The golden age of football was in the 50's and 60's when linebackers weighed 200lbs. Owners only like their big players because they need them to compete agianst other big players. If everyone is clean then everyone is the same size. Big is relative to who they are compared to.

It's been posted that the NFL seems to get a free ride when it comes to scutiny regarding PAs and MLB seems to be the whipping post. I agree, there are so many suspension in the NFL that are a blurb on the 7th page of the sports section. I think some of it just has to do with the nature of the game as "backupcatchers" eluded to. If a lineman who is "enhancing" is going up against another lineman that is "enahancing" they, in effect, cancel each other out. I don't think that you can say that a pitcher cancels out a hitter in the same way (I'm still not convinced that PA's help pitchers as much as they help hitters).

In addition, Baseball is such a statistics sport. If a guy like Brady Anderson is averaging 17 HRs a year, then all of a sudden pops 50, it doesn't pass the smell test. You don't have these kind of measuring sticks in football.

If that was the golden age, this must be the diamond platinum age or something. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/happy.gif

Yeah, I know plenty of 6'6" 340 lb. guys that farm around me.

There is massive steroid and HGH use in the NFL, especially HGH. They just do an awesome job of covering it up, in part because they were smart enough to implement their testing program before the media groundswell. For some reason said media tends to look the other way, even when there are reports of a bunch of guys getting steroids from a team doctor (Steelers) or some phony doctor (Panthers). There was a 60 Minutes story on the Panthers thing, but it quickly went away. Like others said, even with the Rodney Harrison thing, it was here and gone within a couple of days. Peppers, Merriman, etc. as well.
