First Place!

brewtown82

I think it's agreed that our division is relatively poor.

That being the case, I think these next three-ish weeks have the potential to be the best three weeks in my life as a baseball fan or the most depressing. And I can't wait either way.

I have a night class on both Tuesday and Wednesday nights and if the Brewers continue to play meaningful games the next few weeks you better believe I'll have the earphones for my radio running up my sleeve at the very least, and most likely won't be making an appearance in either of those classes on the 25th or 26th.

It's better than not being in first place, but I'm not exactly beaming with pride.
At this point I'm not trying to win the ultimate bragging rights about our record. I think even if the Crew blows it, being forced to play for something into September will help develop the younger players. If we are lucky enough to win the division and go to the playoffs, I'll again be happy that the players get a feel about playing into October, and that Milwaukee can get some playoffs after 25 years.

But for now, I'm just enjoying the ride. I became a lot more Zen about all this once we coughed up the lead in the division. I'm just happy when they do well, and it's nice to see them with a shot this far along in the season.

The Brewers now control their own destiny.

Yes, and the Cubs and the Cardinals also "control their own destiny" http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/eek.gif ...all 3 are tied in the loss column (and besides that, the Cards have 3 games against the Brewers and 4 against the Cubs).

My dream Cappy scenario would be for Ned to put him in after one of the starters gets behind big time (say 6-0). It'll be disappointing at first that we're done, but the team will rally and win with Cappy not giving up a run and earning his first W since May. A kid can dream.

I predict that Chris Capuano will get a big somewhere down the stretch.

I Disagree. I think Capuano will get a big something down the stretch.

People keep on ignoring that Suppan was pretty sucky in his last win. I'd imagine Capuano was thinking, "Hey I could give up 4 runs in 5 innings too!"

Only 2 of the runs were earned and the defense was bad in general that game. Over his last 7 games he's sitting at a 3.70 ERA. He's pretty much thrown the ball like expected which is pretty darn average overall and our fielding has made it look worse than it is.
