Ryan Braun's 28th HR...

DannoMac21

why do younger veterans like Albert Pujols do it and it's okay

Pujols has taken his team to 2 WS -- and has won an MVP. Braun has had a great year -- but it's WAY to early to put him at Pujols's level.

A little emotion is great and needed for this team.

No. Execution is needed, not emotion. The reason this team lost its lead was a lack of execution not a lack of emotion. The last thing we needed last night was for Prince or Braun to get one on the elbow and miss some games.

As a side note, it should be understood I use the phrase "Execution is needed" to mean different things for different players. For example "Execution" as it relates to Greg Aquino or Johnny Estrada is different from the "Execution" as it relates to Ryan Braun or Prince.

This debate is funny and pretty prudish to anyone who's watched any Latin baseball. Those guys jaw and pose nonstop-and then go out drinking together afterward, no hard feelings.

Yeah, I know we don't like over-emotional here and need to adhere to the Slavic self-loathing strain in Milwaukee, but, as much as I hate Zambrano, I kind of get where he's coming from. Whenever I see Braun do one of his punk moves I just say, "He's bringing sexy back."

"This debate is funny and pretty prudish to anyone who's watched any Latin baseball."

So obviously all of baseball is kind of prudish since Berkman, FSN, ESPN, the Astros message board, and Ned Yost thought Braun's trot was a little over the top.

It's not just us humble mid-western yokels.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

As the saying goes, act like you've been there before.

He's possibly having the greatest rookie season ever and he is helping carry a franchise to potentially their first post season since 1982. He hasn't been their before, nor will he ever again.

Sorry, but I'm not going to get angry with someone for simply enjoying playing baseball. Nor do I think it's anyone's right to try and take that joy away from him.

So hah! http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/smile.gif

I thought it was disrespectful. If I was Coop I would have thrown at him for sure especialyl considering the game was out of hand at that point. It wasnt like he walked to first. He stared, then looked at the dugout, then walked, then looked at dugout, then finally decided to run

I agree with you that it is WAY to early to put him at Pujols's level and that wasn't my point. I may have not explained myself clearly the first time but what I meant to say as the saying goes act like you've been there before. Pujols has been there before along with guys like Aramis and they take a long look at homeruns just like many other veterans. If you are supposed to act like you have been there before those guys should have more reason to put their head down and run since they have done it so many times and it shouldn't be anything special to them. Braun is helping lead his team to hopefully make the playoffs where this team has not been for a long time. A little execution with emotion is a good thing. Braun is executing and by showing emotion he is not hurting the team. I do not want him to do this every homerun but he was obviously having fun with his own bench and not trying to show up the other team. I don't want the other team to plunk our best hitters either but I don't think we should expect our players to have no emotion in the midst of a playoff run.

Its not like he pointed at the pitcher while doing a double pelvic thrust with his tongue out. I have looked at the replay a few times, and I would not put it high on the list of showboat antics. He looked to his own dugout, put his head down and ran around the bases. He looked at the dugout the second time after he started to run and never really did stare at the ball. He walked for 4 steps before he started running. Not a big deal in my book. Maybe its because i am desensitized to athletes, or maybe its because i wear a helmet.

As for the game being out of hand in the 2nd inning, an early six run lead is not all that safe for the Brewers this year.

IMO: The "fun" people at the party liked the pimp walk, while the others didn't. And that's fine, every party needs the others.

First of all, how many members here actually played real varsity baseball/softball in high school or college? And how many homers did you hit? I don't want to know about beer league softball, little league, or anything like that--just legitimate varsity baseball/softball.

I only hit six home runs in high school, but I did have an average of about .400 my junior year and over .500 my senior year. During my junior year, we were playing our arch rival school at their place. My Dad also taught at that school, so everybody knew who I was and offered some friendly suggestions to me if you know what I mean. Anyway, the first time I was up, I absolutely crushed one to right-center field and in good fashion, stood and watched it a little bit. My coach yelled at me from the third base box. He knew my situation, but still told me that was uncalled for.

In my next at bat, I drilled one to center field and I didn't know if it would be a home run or not. I sprinted and when I got to second base, the umpire told me to slow down -- it was my second homer of the game.

I coach girls softball and will probably coach my son's baseball team when I get older. If any of my players do what I did, I would get on their case, too.

.....greatest ever? That may be a stretch.

Nobody is saying that he should not enjoy the accomplishments, but there is a time and place for it. I for one, think it was part of a little good natured ribbing going on between he and Prince, and not at all directed to the other team. And if that in fact is the case, then even more so it should be done inside the dugout, not inside the basepaths.

I was almost shocked the crowd didn't boo Ryan after his arrogant display. (that's dark blue since I'm only half kidding)

If the Cubs can celebrate walk off wins in late June like it's Game 7, then I have no problem with Ryan taking a few slow steps out of the box on a ball he crushed and knew was gone in the midde of a close divisional race in September.

That said, I'm glad Ned talked to him and I'm glad Ryan appologized the next time up.

.....greatest ever? That may be a stretch.

His current 1.029 OPS would rank 2nd ever for a rookie (1st, Ted Williams, 1.045, 1939), and his .649 slugging percentage would rank 1st (2nd, Mark McGuire, .618, 1987). Its debateable, but definately not a stretch.

It is in no way a stretch. And after the final game Sept. 30 I think he will have had the greatest rookie season ever.

I really don't care if he keeps hitting them, but we've visited this subject before, and Braun is a jerk to anyone other than Brewer fans. If you can't see it, you're not looking. Like I said, I don't care, but this isn't the first instance of this kind of behavior, it's been going on all season. He should be a little more professional in my opinion...but again, if he keeps hitting them, I have no problem with him being a hot dog. But he definitely is a hot dog (lack of available names for this board) let's not let the Brewer goggles make us too biased.

I guess I agree that he may be a bit of a hot dog, but to call him a jerk. Im not sure he is a jerk to everyone that is not a Brewer fan.

Well, I don't think he's a jerk because he's producing on the team I root for. But again, this is not even close to the first time this has happened. Do you think Astros fans don't think he's a jerk after last night? I think Carlos Zambrano is a jerk...do you think Cubs fans think that? There is a big difference between respecting a player for their ability and respecting a player for their ability along with how the conduct themselves...Braun is on his way to being a great player, but he's also on his way to being a jerk, hot dog, and many other names to opposing teams' fans. I'm just calling it like I see it. Go Braun!

I guess I haven't seen instinces of him being a jerk to anyone. But if he wants to be a Jerk to Cubs fans that would be fine with me, some of them deserve it.

I don't think anyone said he was the first.

EDIT: I don't think he's a jerk, but he shows up the other team all the time in the way he watches his home runs, maybe jerk wasn't the right word. I have a hard time believing Brewer fans that say they haven't seen it all season. Again, I couldn't care less.

He may be a bit of a show boat, but hes not a jerk. I have never heard him say a single negative thing in the media about his team, another team, or anyones fans. He never called anyone out and he neve claimed he was going to win this award or that award and things of that nature. Actually Cubs fans do think and know Zambrano is a jerk, Ive talked to many that think hes a tool. Because of the way he shoots his mouth off in the media and treats his own fans. Braun does neither of those things.
