Mosquitos galore

jaybird2001wi

Well, a few weeks have passed since your weeklong drenching of rain and it has given us a new problem on our hands... mosquitos! Everytime I go outside, it is like I get a new mosquito bite and don't even know how or even notice them around me. Then when I let my dog outside, I gotta let him in right away or else he will be attacked by swarms of them.
Then last night, my Mom noticed a lot of them on TV watching the Brewer game. Let's just say I am trying to find some home remedies that will help ease the itching and rubbing alcohol seems to work alright.
I itch so much that I feel like I haven't had a shower in days. Anyone else having these problems?

It used to be the worst time for mosquitos was dusk/night but I was out on my parents deck having a coffee the other morning and got bit like five times. Good thing we don't have that problem down here in Chicago.

They've been getting to me in the mornings at my bus stop. I'm carrying around my tube of anti-itch cream.

Fortunately, the bites don't swell up on me as much as they did when I was a kid (mere bumps instead of welts). But they still itch like crazy.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

They have been terrible. I need to water the flowers outside, but I just get swarmed by them as soon as I go out the door. I don't know how I'll get the yard work done this month. At least the lawnmower seems to keep them away. I never get bit while cutting, only when I stop the lawnmower.

Worst thing ever: When a mosquito is in your room while you are trying to sleep. Without fail, they will fly into your ear right when you are about to fall asleep, and the high-pitched buzzing will freak you out and is the most annoying sound ever. Also, you will most likely quickly sit up in bed, and swat at your ear (you won't get the mosquito, but you WILL hit yourself in the side of the head).

And what's with the water bag in the Astros dugout? Does anybody know if that actually works for mosquitoes? And if so, how?

Mosquitoes are one of the few things I do not miss living in Arizona. When I was a kid, I'd go home at dusk, and Mom would get out the pink caladryl lotion--I looked like I had some weird pink spot disease for most of the summer. My problem now is that, having been away from Wisconsin for so long, bites take days to go away. Recently, my husband and I were out late to watch the meteor shower. Something (still not sure what) bit me numerous times, and the bite welts (some of them the size of a quarter) didn't clear for almost a week.

When I was moving into my apartment on Sunday, a mosquito was biting me on the forehead while I was carrying a couch. All the time I could feel something there but wasn't quite sure if it were a mosquito or not, but when I finally put the couch down I hit my head and sure enough there was a bloody mosquito on my head.

during pregame, they said that the bags of water disrupt/distract mosquito's field of vision, or something like that. It had something to do with distorting light and confusing the mosquito's relatively poor vision.

I remember a long time ago there was an American League game, it may have been the White Sox, had to play a game with a fly infestation at the stadium. It got to the point where the visiting team, or was it the home team, jokingly started a campfire in the bullpen to deter the flys/mosquitoes. I also recall there were some instances where a game was "Bug delayed" due to the infestation and lead to the hitters not seeing the ball well because so many were flying around.

I also seem to recall back when the Houston Astros were the Colt .45s and there old stadium had terrible problems with flies around the stadium.

I live with my parents right now and my dad asked me why I had the Rubbing alcohol out and on the Vanity tower in our bathroom and I said that rubbing alcohol helps remedy the itching problem. He said to use Peroxide because if you itch enough, it will leave an open wound and once you apply peroxide to it, it will speed up the healing process to the bite.
