App State is Hot Hot Hot

ASU has a solid program and has won back to back 1AA titles. That said, I laugh my butt off at Michigan for losing their first ever 1AA game at home.

App State ripped down their own goalpost in Boone, NC yesterday after the win. It's a large high school sized stadium with good groundskeepers. I started my marathon in that stadium in July.

This is a huge upset, but it is better to lose to App. State on 9/1 than Ohio State on 11/15.

Right -- I agree, however, I think if App. State can put up 30+ points on these guys it gives their opponents renewed vigor.

It will put a lot of heat on their program, esp. with Oregon coming in next week.

If Michigan wins out and there is only one or no undefeated teams, then they'll play for the Nat'l title.

Really? I realize they'd be undefeated in the Big Ten which would be quite impressive, but I'd have thought that it'd be a SEC/PAC 10 championship game, assuming the winner of the SEC championship game was the team with the best (or maybe 2nd best) overall record in the SEC. I'm not a BCS expert so I don't know how the numbers would play out, but that would be incredibly unfair. Imagine the outcry. If that happened it'd be the end of the BCS as we know it, which I would be quite thankful for.

Michigan's position in the polls is going to plummet this week. I wouldn't be surprised if they fell 40 spots. And as for the national championship, I really would have to think it's out of the question. USC, LSU, Texas, Wisconsin, and West Va. aren't going to lose more than one game in all likelyhood, and BCS voters aren't going to choose a team that lost to a 1-AA over a team that lost to say, Cal or Florida.

First weekend of college football and I'm tired of hearing how great the SEC is already.

I even like a couple teams but man, had to mute the Auburn/KState last night.

Also seems odd that I'm looking forward to the UW passing game and the Packers defense- opposite of years past.

This is great for the Badgers. Now if Ohio State can lose a game.

Well, other than the Badgers moving up a spot, this is entirely inconsequential for the Badgers. It's the conference game where they actually play Michigan that has any significance.

Does anyone besides me kind of think that when recruiting prospects, big schools like Michigan don't think of guys that have tools like Edwards of App State and go straight for high school 5-stars or do you think that the prospect wants to go to a school with a system for them and playing time? Like Edwards coming out of high school had Clemson and others but to play defense and not QB.

And Penn State and Iowa too for that matter.

PSU i'll buy that. But Iowa is just a bad team. They have no shot at the Big Ten this year, even with missing out on UM and OSU.

I'd love to agree with you about Iowa but other than last year they've owned Wisconsin for the past 4 or 5 years.

In the short to medium term, yes. But long-term, it could help the Badgers immensely. For one, if it comes down to a winning percentage tie-breaker (in case of a 3-way tie for the conference[ ie, Wisconsin beats OSU, who beats Michigan, who beats Wisconsin and all three finish with a conference loss]), obviously Michigan having the non-conference loss would put Michigan out of the running for the championship. Also, anything that hurts Michigan's recruiting efforts in anyway (and yes, this is something that could really hurt the way recruitees look at Carr) is a big plus for the Badgers, and if they're after any of the same recruits, it might give the Badgers a leg-up.

ugggh.... As a Michigan fan that was the most embarrassing thing i have ever witnessed. The only positive is hopefully this will push Lloyd closer to the door. I doubt it, however, because martin won't do anything with carr until he decides he wants to go. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif

That said, I laugh my butt off at Michigan for losing their first ever 1AA game at home.
Can someone please explain this to me. The article I read stated that they are a former division 1AA team:

http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=655774

It also states that they are not eligilbe to be ranked because "they're not in the Football Bowl Subdivision.". What does that mean? Do they belong to any division? What are they...just an independant college team that plays whoever?

User in-game thread post in 1st inning of 3rd game of the 2022 season: "This team stinks"

Not sure, But I think the NCAA now calls the old 1A "FBS" and the old 1AA "FCS".

Heck, even Jerry Moore (HC ASU) still messes the name up.

As a huge I-AA guy (I know it is FCS, but old habits are hard to break), I have been telling people for years the top 25 in I-aa can play with 75% of the teams in I-a. The difference is depth, not the starting 22. 85 schollys to 63 is a big deal. My alma mater (Furman University) has a good record against i-a schools, but in the last few years we have lost coming down the stretch. Our starting 22 have been better than UNC, Pitt and Clemson but get worn down by the fourth quarter and we have lost some of those games.

And as a diehard of ASU's biggest rival I hope their heads are big when the come to Greenville, SC on Oct 27 for the SoCon championship because that game is actually more important than the Michigan victory.
