Villanueva Back on Friday?

pebadger

Anyone got any idea if Carlos will be called back tomorrow? Parra's thumb is probably the perfect excuse to DL him and get CV back in time to qualify for the postseason roster (wishful thinking, yes). At any rate, Yost has already said CV would be back, so I'm just speculating here. I already suspected the Parra might be replaced on the roster after tonight's start anyway, but this seems like a good time to do it.

I think you might be onto something. You don't get through a torn up finger nail very easily. If Carlos comes up and Manny is placed on the DL, both have clear-cut playoff roster eligibility.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I'd assume Gwynn will come up as well (for someone....) because you really don't need 12 pitchers in the playoffs.

Well, who's pitching Saturday (Bush goes Friday and Suppan on Sunday)? Gallardo? I suspect when Villenueva returns it will be as a starter. He had another AAA start on Tuesday and went just 4.1 again. The way I see it, we don't have a starter for next Tuesday.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't guys have automatic playoff roster eligibility if they're on the 40-man roster at the end of the month, not the 25?

Found it, from the site's FAQ:

Which players are eligible are allowed to be on the post-season roster?

Players that are on the 40-man roster by August 31st are eligible to be on the post-season roster. If a player is injured, any player in the organization can be used. The restriction in this case is that a hitter be substituted for a hitter, and a pitcher be substituted for a pitcer.

Who cares who we call up? Unless God himself is going to put on a Brewers uniform this team is doomed. Forever.

For this year, we are doomed.

Next year... I can see a lot of reasons for optimism. Hall will have a year under his belt in center (I think the position shift did throw him off a little). Braun and Gallardo will be up here for the full year. Weeks will be 100%. Mench and Jenkins will not be taking nearly $10 million of salary to do what a Gross/LaPorta platoon can do in left next year.

The Brewers can be over .500 at the end of the year. Playoffs? I think they are out of the question. There have been some big steps forward.
