We've had our 5 hitter all along... (New Designated Lineup Thread)

Brewer Fever

While I agree Corey Hart should be hitting 5th, I think it's more important to get Braun the hell out of the clean-up spot and put Prince back there. Prince is a free swinger, his BA has stayed pretty much the same weather he's hitting in the 3 or 4 spot. Braun, however, has dropped off with the switch. Ned, it doesn't work. Fix it!

Stat guys, go...

Braun wasn't going to keep his .380 BABIP long term anyway, he has not displayed the skills of a .300 hitter in the majors yet so I find it hard to just blame the switch for his recent struggles. The majority of his 'struggles' are simply the fact he's not hot as hell anymore. I agree I'd rather see Braun #3 because he fits the mold of a 3 hitter a bit more and he has been chasing junk out of the strike zone, but I don't think its fair to blame all of his struggles on the move.

Where is everyone who wanted Hardy out of the #2 spot earlier this year?

Supposedlytoo many plate disipline issues .Swings at too many bad pitches to be an ideal #2 hitter.

Now he's been batting 2nd again at times.

Where's the uproar?

I'm glad that he's now batting higher than 8th.I'm just not so sure I like him batting 2nd again.

Corey serves this team well batting 5th as others have suggested. He just might serve this team even better by batting 2nd.

I'm going to suggest something nobody has suggested yet...Bill Hall hitting 3rd. The guy had 35 homeruns last season so we know the potential is there. He began the year hitting 4th, protecting Fielder and having nobody protect him, which made him get lousy pitches to hit. When he began to struggle he was moved down. I dont think he's ever had adequate protection. I think Corey Hart is an ideal #6 hitter because he can drive in runs big time. I'd go with these lineups:

v. Righties v. Lefties

Weeks Weeks

Gross Hardy

Hall Hall

Fielder Fielder

Braun Braun

Hart Hart

Estrada Mench

Hardy Estrada

I don't really like idea of moving Hardy around from 8 to 2 depending on the pitcher, but when there is a lefty, there really isn't a better option for batting 2.

shoot them down then...like i said, the guy hit 35 home runs a year ago and has the likes of Geoff Jenkins and Kevin Mench "protecting" him this year. Are you telling me that if Fielder, Braun, and Hart are behind him, and he can lay off the high fastballs and low and away breaking balls his numbers wont dramatically improve?

The majority of studies have shown that the difference would not be significant. If he could lay off the high fastballs and low and away breaking balls his numbers would improve regardless of who is batting behind him.

thats true....but chances are he'd get less of them, especially when behind in the count, because pitchers wouldnt want to take the chance of walking him with Fielder and Braun coming up. I'm certainly not suggesting all we have to do is move him to 3 and he'll pop out 10 more homeruns this season, I just think he would see better pitches to hit and would improve because of that.
