Hopeful ESPN article on Sheets and tonight's win

I thought this was some pretty positive press for tonight's game, and actually got me a little fired up. Maybe, just maybe, tonight will be a turning point. I told my wife I'm not going to get excited until I see another win tomorrow, but secretly, I'm a little excited already.

Anyway, some good quotes from the Crew in this article, they might get some good juice from tonight after all;

Driving around just now, its a beautiful day, I was listening to Steve Stone on the Score, and they were very complimentary of the Brewers...I came to realize that i am not ready to pack in the season yet. The Brewers may force me to, but I'm not ready. An exciting Septmber would be so much fun. PLEASE WIN TONIGHT! I mean really, please win tonight! If we can get this one, and basically draw back to even with the Cubs, and probably Cardinals as well, I do believe we will be around for most of the rest of the season. Not sure we'll win it, but I think we'll be in it. At this point, I think that's all I am asking for.

As I've mentioned before, I'm begging these Brewers to prove me wrong, and if those guys who showed up last night keep showing up, then I'll be glad to admit I was wrong to doubt them.

It was almost as if a different team played last night's game.

Not the same stumble-bums who've been swinging at ball 4 high and outside,

Not the same guys who raced out to 3-plus run leads and then sat on their hands as the opponent climbed back into the game,

Not the same outfielders who let Texas Leaguers fall in front of them,

Not the same fielders who'd throw the ball into the dugout trying to catch a starying baserunner,

Not the same middle relievers who would allow a run, then another the next inning, then, maybe a 3-spot in the 7th for a loss,

Not the same setup man/closer tandem who'd start walking every other batter before surrendering a game-tying extra-base hit,

Not the same starting pitcher who'd give up 4 earned runs by the 6th rolled around, turning the game over to the rickety bullpen,

....Hell, even Ned seemed more lucid and quotable yesterday when backed into a corner!

They seemed like the same guys we gained so much confidence in, in April.

THESE guys I believed in! These were the players I stopped doubting. I hope the exact same fellas show up tonight, and the rest of the year, because if those clowns who frittered away our rare chance at glory return, then it's time to start looking to football...

Man the threads available and general posting yesterday was toxically negative.

What a difference a day makes.

And I am sure this commentary can go in any number of reaffirmingly positive threads today, but...

Lost in the hoopla of Rickie's amazing game (ivy laser beam, on base 4 times), Braun's coming of age to better a pitcher that had his number, Shouse's rubber arm, McClung's day at the office, Jenkins pulling a ball (on the ground no less!) against a lefty, Hart's omnipresent excellence, Prince doing what Prince does best when angered (the IBB must've upped Z's estrogen)...

is the job that the medical staff - top to bottom - did with Ben, in addition to the mental fortitude Ben showed by making his rehab start at Rigley (sic). It must have taken some serious, creative thinking to keep his arm, shoulder, non-shoulder back muscle, abdominal and mind fresh, yet conditioned enough to get to last night's point despite every possible hurdle thrown in the way. As equally uplifted as we are now is how utterly devastated we could be had... HAD something gone wrong.

Kudos to the whole team of which I know not a single name.

Amen to your sentiment(s), TPR. As sad as it is, those thoughts on Sheets had never even popped up in my head. To the staff, who - aside from just Sheets - does a tremendous job and probably hears squat about it except from those inside the organization, thank you!

Rickie's amazing game
Come on, he got hit by two pitches. Undoubtedly, he's hitting a little better at the plate now, but let's not go crazy about the fact that he got two freebies. (And then refused to swipe a base against Kendall, no less....)

wow, hey nitpicker...

go ahead and pencil my lead-off hitter in for getting on base 4 times anytime. All in a job description. It's not my fault Rickie carries mad amounts of dark matter around in his back pocket affecting his gravitational pull to the point of getting beaned at a highly anomolaic rate; ask Craig Biggio. But if it helps you to see the purpose of my post I will remove those 3 words from the other 188.
