So called '57 Braves reunion

2hoophead

Uecker was mentioning it again earlier in the broadcast and mentioned the 14 people who will be there.

Well, he mentioned pitcher Carlton Willey whom I remember from the early 60's when I started listening to the Braves games. Just as I thought, Willey was not on the '57 team. Baseball Reference shows him to have started with Milwaukee in 1958 and also did not see him in my Braves Championship plaque.

Close enough I guess as there isnt too many of them alive anymore.

My gosh.

They couldn't even set this up for when there was a home game?

*shakes head*

I know lots of people around my Dad's age (60ish) who would've loved to see this group.

The Milwaukee Braves Historical Association in conjuction with the Brewers purposely set this up for a non-home game date. This is a classy respectful event designed specifically to honor those players, not have it be part of a Brewers pre-game ceremony.

There will be a press conference held at Miller park (closed to the public) at 3:30 PM Thursday followed by a short ceremony at the Braves monument at Helfaer Field. Following that, the players will be transported to the Northern Lights Theatre at Potowatomi Casino for a cocktail reception followed by a dinner and a program honoring each of the players. This event has been sold out for months.

Hank Aaron, Red Schoendienst, Wes Covington, Johnny Logan, Del Crandall, are among those who will attend. Frank Torre and Ernie Johnson were scheduled to attend but health issues have forced them to cancel. Mrs. Lew Burdette will be there along with the family of Eddie Mathews. Each paid attendee (300+ people) will receive a Braves themed County Stadium poster, a Braves themed jacket and other 1957 Braves related items.

The Milwaukee Braves Historical Assn. was formed in 2001 as a means of keeping the memory of the Milwaukee Braves alive. Johnny Logan is the President of the group which has over 800 members world wide and holds dinners once or twice a year to honor players from the all 13 years of the franchises stay in this city. Honoree's have included hall of famers Warren Spahn, Hank Aaron, and Phil Niekro. Lew Burdette, Chuck Tanner, Carl Willey Ernie Johnson, Gene Conley, and Wes Covington are among other who have been honored. There is a newsletter (the TeePee) which is published quarterly and distributed to dues paying members.
