*RED ALERT THREAD* 8/28/07 Brewers (Suppan. 8-11, 4.85) at Cubs (Hill. 7-7, 3.67) 7:05 CT

sheetswannabe

Someone asked for a good speech. Here is an adapted speech from a movie. I hope you can all recognize it.
Ned will be saying this to his players right now:

"Good afternoon. In less than 3 hours, brewers players born here will join others born around the world.

And you will be launching the biggest baseball aerial assult in this history of mankind.

Mankind -- that word should have new meaning for all of us today.

We can't be consumed by my obvious flaws anymore.

We will be united in our common interest of bringing playoff baseball back to Milwaukee.

Perhaps its fate that the end of this series is 57 (year of last title) days after the 4th of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom, not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution -- but from annihilation.

We're fighting for our right to play on, to exist.

And should we win the series, the 30th of August will no longer be known as just an ordinary Thursday, but as the day when the Brewers organization declared in one voice:

"We will not go quietly into the night!

We will not vanish without a fight!

We're going to play on!

We're going to survive!"

Today, we celebrate: OUR RUN FOR THE PENNANT!"

I would love to hang out tonight, but I'm in Houston again this week and will do my best to root the Astros to victory over the Cardinals. Can't lose sight of them while we're taking care of the Cubs!

For some reason, I feel very optimistic about the Crew's chances this week.

Listening to WSCR the better part of the day, it seems the only question left in Chicago is whether the Cubs will win 2 or 3 games in this series. I would very much like teh Brewers to win this series and make it clear to all that they are going to be part of the incredibly underwhelming NL Central race.

No kidding. It wouldn't be the end of the world if we only took 1 game, but it would be SO sweet if we could sweep these ....... expletive avoided.

I really lost a lot of respect for Piniella the way he abandoned that massive Devil Rays project. Dude apparently cannot handle the heat. I hope the Brew Crew gets him singing "It's My Party" by the time the week is out.

Anyway...

I think we should kick off this important series with some prayer . . .

Our Father, who art in heaven,

Hallowed be thy Name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

and the power,

and the glory,

for ever and ever.

Amen.

Please, just make this competitive.

I would love it if the Brewers showed the same kind of plate discipline they did in the last series they played at Wrigley, knocking out starters after 2 or 3 innings and really taxing the Cubs bullpen. That seems like a completely different team, now, though...here's to hoping that the playoff atmosphere in Wrigley will help our guys snap out of whatever funk they've been in for the past month.

Go Crew!

Off to the sports bar, blue & gold checked shirt, blue boxers, cargo shorts with a blue & gold patch on the leg...

(Does anyone else feel like Ned is a dangerous bubbling cauldron at this point? Rluz I am not, but I rate the likelihood of a Ned-jection at 100% at some point in this series.)

Id much prefer to see Braun 3rd and Fielder 4th, but what the hell. Man we need this game, we need this series, we need a sweep. This might be the most important series the Brewers have played since 92 or 82. Come on Jeff, I know you can be a good pitcher. You just haven't shown it much as a Brewer.
