Baseball OOTP League

brewers255

Hey, I know some-people who are running a OOTP league. If you are wondering the difference between a OOTP and Mogul League, OOTP is a lot more advanced. You can sign guys to extensions even if they have 3 years left on the deal, they have player options built in, they have waivers and DFA built in, they have comp. picks for FA's built in. Here is an example of a site that the game will provide, all the commish have to do is upload it to the site: http://4otp.net/news/html/ You can see standings and all that right in there. You click the players name and you can see box scores all that kind of stuff. Please PM me with this format:

just a question, but why do some of your posts seem to run on like a telemarketer? Weren't you the one getting that mogul league going a month ago, too? That also just sounded like a bunch of riggamarole (sp?) that turned me completely off from reading about it.

Personally, I tried OOTP once and hated it. And I'm talking about the newest version--not the crappy one from a year or two ago. I couldn't do anything. It was not user friendly at all. And I despised the fact that you don't use real players. Yes, I realize you can download the Lahman database or something to get you real players but that's just dumb. Aren't the actual team names in the game just fake names in the real MLB cities, or am I thinking of a different game?

I don't know why I some of my posts run like a telemarketer, but anyways, the league I ran with mogul is still going, but I had to get mogul off my computer, so I had to have someone else sim. I than bought OOTP and love it, maybe were just different but I feel like playing a game that's realistic. I like the fact they have player options built right in. I also feel like playing a game where it's almost directly like being a manager.

I play Diamond Mind Baseball, which is probably just as, if not more, realistic than OOTP. Just not as fancy with graphics (although you can add stuff to it) and it has real players. Plus, many professional journalists and baseball historians use it due to it's incredible statistical realism for simulations (and projections).

OOTP beats the pants off Diamond Mind or Baseball Mogul. You have to be somewhat computer savvy to use it, but if you visit a site and download the rosters, etc., it's simply the best thing out there. The 2006 version bombed, but I played v. 2.0-6.51 to death. I've played almost every sim out there, but OOTP is the top of the class. That said, it's detail isn't for everyone. Don't have time for a league right now, but hope you guys have fun.

I think OOTP beats the pants off DMB because of the stuff you do with stadiums, concessions, souvenirs and all that stuff. DMB has OOTP beat on gameplay, realism, statistical accuracy, play-by-play.

But I'm sure we could argue for days. To each his own: you like OOTP, I like DMB.

I'm in a league based on DMB and it's incredible. But we have a great commish that set up our own website and uploads results and stats every night. And unlike most sim leagues, we 'own' the entire franchise down to rookie ball. So, I have Pittsburgh and receive any player drafted by Pittsburgh this year. But as minor leaguers change teams in real life, I keep them in the Pittsburgh franchise. We can trade players at all levels. We have a salary cap and use real-life contracts for all players. It is absolutely the closest thing you can get to simulating a GM. Here's the url to the website if anyone's interested in checking it out: http://onbasesiml.com/index.htm

of course, there are no minor leagues in DMB. I know what you are saying about it. Just thought I'd provide this heads-up for those that check out DMB and then say, "what are you talking about, you knucklehead! There aren't any minor leaguers in the game!"

DMB, for those that don't know, only deals with real players that play in the majors. Every player (even guys that throw to one batter, pinch-run only, etc.) is in each season's disk. There are no "imaginary" players, although you can create players.

That's correct - I should have clarified. Each franchise (from MLB down to rookie ball) is managed outside of DMB (each GM keeps their roster and the website for our league lists the full player/team list for the minor leagues). Then for each season, we name our 40-man roster after spring training and those are the 40 players for each team that are loaded into DMB itself for the sims. Sorry that I didn't make that clear. This is also why our league is so unique, because it does take a VERY dedicated commish and 30 GM's who are willing to spend a lot of time tracking our own teams. I have a huge spreadsheet and update all of my players real-life stats during the season (yes, even the guys playing for the Gulf Coast League Pirates)!

that does sound pretty fun. Too bad, I'm already in a league (commish, too) that is enough work as it is. But I love GMing my teams and then playing the games. Our "minor leaguers" are just guys we drafted from the scrubs and prospects out there. (i.e. one of my teams has Tom Gorzalany on it but won't pitch for me until next season. Ryan Braun won't be drafted until this coming spring.)

With the Pirates, I've had Gorzelanny and seen him come up through the minors. I have him in my rotation this year and he's 11-4 with a 3.65 ERA. I took over the Pirates three years ago and went 65-97 that first year (the previous GM had kind of neglected them!). Last year I improved to 86-76 and finished in 3rd place. This year I'm currently 77-55, but can't catch the damn Cubs. But I'm a game up in the wild card race. Most fun I've ever had following baseball. I oftentimes anticipate the simulation of each day's game in this league more than the Brewers game in real life!
