personally, chewing is much more appealing to me than cigarettes. For instance, I can be in the presence of people that chew and not have my rights violated.

perhaps, but that's also why I don't hang around anyone that smokes. I really don't care if someone chews, as it's their choice and it doesn't affect me.

For me, cancer just seems like such an absolutely miserable way to go, so much that I just can't really imagine why someone would want to increase their chances of it in return for a short-lived buzz.

Then don't go outside. Don't use a cell phone. Don't sit too close to a CRT monitor. Don't do a million other things in excess that increase chances of things like cancer.

 

A little Sun won't hurt you. Not having radiating electronics around your body all the time won't hurt you. Doing things in moderation won't hurt you. And while you're at it, don't ever do anything that might involve an insignificant amount of risk. Don't ever have sex. Don't sky dive. Don't leave your bedroom.

Since there is discussion on the negatives of chewing, from RotoWorld, regarding Giants pitcher Vinny Chulk:

Vinny Chulk does not have a blood clot in his arm after all, according to the AP. He's now been diagnosed with Buerger's Disease in his middle finger, a circulatory disorder affecting the arms and legs that can be caused partially from the use of chewing tobacco. Athletic trainer Dave Groeschner said he and doctors are still doing some investigating to determine what course of action to take. "If he continues to use tobacco products it could be an issue that could spread to other fingers or his toes," Groeschner said.

 

I am obviously not against chewing, but there's another thing to consider for the hardcore users.

For the record, I always inhale my cigars. That's why I usually don't smoke more then 1/2 of one in a night, and almost never buy them in the first place.

 

I blame this thread for my recent purchase of a tin of chew. I woke up the other morning slightly dazed and confused only to find a tin in my front pocket. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what had possessed me to buy chew until I remembered this thread. Even the slightest mention of something stupid and I'm tempted to do it...
