JS Story

I've seen a lot of people trust Yost's earlier comments that Rickie was 100% (which I didn't believe). Here is Rickie's latest comments on his swing:

"I've been seeing the ball better, taking my walks. I still can't swing the bat as hard as I'd like to but I'm just trying to do what I can to contribute to the team. You want to finish as strong as you can, plus we've got the pennant race, too."

Sounds to me like Rickie believes he is 85 percent at the most. Why do I get the feeling that if the Brewers fail to earn a winning record, it will all come down to this, among other things. Rickie Weeks seems like he wants to "troop it out" for the good of the team, but what will it do for clubhouse morale?

This should show all the people that have been ripping Weeks that the reason for his bad season is his wrist. He is doing the best he can and even when he is not at full strength he is helping the team. Rickie should be 100% by next spring and I believe he will have a breakthrough year next season.

A guy putting up his number this year has to have a few excuses. While I tend to believe him - he could be exaggerating to help explain his lack of production.

Also, if he is still having problems with his wrist - who is to say it is going to get better? He just said he was trying to get past that - he didn't say anything about his wrist making improvements, or even still causing any pain.

My problem is that all last winter we were led to believe that Weeks would be 100% healthy this season. If there was a chance he wouldn't be, they should have kept open the possibility of Hall playing some infield.

And what about his April numbers? Didn't seem to bother him them at all.

I don't think I was ever led to believe this. From everything I had heard, it takes wrist injuries quite some time to fully heal and the scar tissue to completely go away.

I also find it kind of odd that Rickie started to hit immediately after his demotion to AAA. I think his head was all messed up as much as it was his wrist. Maybe the wrist was the original reason but it migrated to his head at some point.

He wasn't swinging at bad pitches really. He just was getting a very low amount of hits on balls hit in the strike zone. I'm not sure why. Bad luck? More likely bad mechanics built up from his injury. He just wasn't making good contact and not hitting any HR's, pointing to a lack of power. I think he's being rather honest in his statements.

He still has one of the best eyes on the team. He doesn't chase very often. He just hasn't made solid contact with the ball all year.

I guess I kind of wish the Brewers had thought about moving Hall back to 2B (I know, I know...), or going after at least a temporary solution at 2B when they knew Weeks was still hurting. I know they had Graffanino at the time, but he was supposed to be a backup/bench player. Craig Counsell just doesn't really cut it, production-wise as a replacement.

The way I remember it was that they said all along that his wrist would take about a full year to fully recover.

He got hurt last July

He had the surgery last August.

Rickie's obp in August in .447. The idea that his struggles are due to anything but his wrist is simply inane
His August number don't prove anything. It could mean he either got his head screwed on right or his wrist healed. No one knows for sure.
