Webb's scoreless streak

Every time I see a reference to this, I think first of the George Webb Burger Run:

Maybe tonight, any run should count as the Webb's Burger Run. Make it happen, Brewers!

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Well, not the lineup I would sent out against Webb, but I'm not the manager, so what do I know??

Here is the Brewers' lineup for tonight:

RF Gabe Gross

2B Craig Counsell

1B Prince Fielder

38 Ryan Braun

LF Geoff Jenkins

CF Bill Hall

C Damian Miller

SS J.J. Hardy

RHP Jeff Suppan

Booooooooo Counsell!!!

There.

What if he doesn't get an at bat seeing as he's our prototypical cleanup hitter....Oh wait.....Nevermind.

I was thinking about this earlier. Has there ever been a game that is a more likely loss? Most of the factors have been mentioned, but once again:

* Going against Webb, the hottest pitcher in baseball, closing in on a 20-year old record.

* Going against the Diamondbacks, one of the NL's best teams.

* Playing the game on the road, where the Crew has been horrid all season.

* Going for a 3-game road sweep, which I heard a while back hadn't been done since 2004 (!).

* Pitching Jeff "5.2 IP, 3 ER" Suppan.

That said, if we win tonight, what a victory it would be. I'm just hoping Zito shuts the Cubs down, and we can head to SF on Friday down no more than .5 games.

Go Crew!

Brewers are 15th in the NL and 28th overall in GIDP. For whatever that's worth.

when you say 28th overall, do you mean we have the 3rd most GIDP or 3rd least in the majors?

I'll go with a 4th inning Fielder jack that cuts the Dback lead to 4-1. Brewers lose 6-1. Webb 8IP, 4H, 1ER, 5K, 2BB, Suppan 5.2 IP 5R 4ER, 3K, 2BB

Interesting (translation: weaker than usual) lineup tonight. Counsell has gotten in the past two games...Yost better not be putting him in the lineup for the sake of further endearing him to the fans in Arizona who adore him so much. Ricky's owning, and we're in a division race...no time to screw around with the lineup.

That said, two lefties (including the one with a salami last night) leading off against Webb isn't all bad.

I see Nedly's got a gut feeling again. That, to me, is the only logical explanation of Counsell in the 2 spot against Webb.

The journey towards Nedvana continues!

I can understand trying to "protect" Rickie by sitting him against a tough righty, but with the way he's been swinging the bat this series, how do you sit him? I'm not calling for Yost's head here, but it's definitely an interesting decision that I hope doesn't backfire. At least Rickie's wrist will have a couple days' rest once the San Francisco series starts.

Counsell couldn't even make contact against Cirillo, how can we expect him to make contact against Brandon Webb? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

It is like the Steve Francis to New York trade.. it is so crazy it just might work.. oh wait that didn't really work out...

I think he is hoping Counsell fouls off 12 pitchers per at bat and gets webb out of there by the 7th..

When does Hart get another start?

I would say whenever Gross cools off a bit. He is hitting .400 since being called back up with 3 HR and 8 RBI...

I know Gross is hot and Jenkins and Hall seem to be warming up but Hart has been their best OF this year by far and is their only SB threat (might be important to manufacture one against Webb)..

I mean if Counsell subbed for Braun and went 3-4 we wouldn't start him the next day..

On the pregame show they interviewed Sutton. He was asked how he thinks the Brewers offense will do against Webb. He said they guy he's most scared of on our team was Counsell since he played shortstop behind him and knows how he pitches. Using that logic, shouldn't Estrada turn into Ruth tonight? Sutton also said Counsell has the best ability to wait out the sinker.

Coshun interviews Daron Sutton during Brewers Live, and Daron says that Counsell is probably better at waiting back on Webb's sinker than anyone else on the Brewers' roster. It's an Interesting thought that I didn't really think of, but Counsell's slap-at-it hitting style does seem to me like it'd be a decent approach against guys who have such a good sink on everything. I could also see Rickie struggling to hit Webb, even if he's been ridiculously hot lately.
