Sutton dissed?

RockCoCougars
Brian, can you please explain more on why Schroeder was not a big fan of Sutton?

I don't mean to answer for Brian, but I don't think he can. Here is what Brian said earlier in the thread when asked that question.

I don't know why there was a rub, but my source is about as close as close gets to Bill.

Okay, just very curious. Mostly because of how chummy they seemed on air and with the whole making the buckethead thing and such. Just seems out of LF to me.

I don't know if anybody watched the pre-game show last night, but Coshun did an interview with Sutton, so they're not completely ignoring him.

and the darned White Sox announcers shouting "HE GONE!" after every K is pretty rough

I know that most people don't like that, but my friend and I drop "He Gone" on each other all the time in funny situations.

I never liked Sutton all that much, I like his dad more, but I always thought Sutton came off as arrogant. I have no specific moment to cite and I have never met the guy, but thats how he came across. To me, the best baseball announcers are the least arrogant, down-to-earth guys who tell it like it is, like Powell and Uecker.

I guess that as professionals they could put aside any personal differences they may have had to make the broadcast work. To some degree both Sutton and Schroeder have an "on air" personality, and that could well different than their "off air" personality. I am not saying that's the case here for sure, but it seems possible, and it would explain why the two seemed to get along OK on the air even tho it seems like they didn't off.

I agree. We all have people at work we can get along with in a work setting that you probably wouldn't outside of work. It's all part of making work as palatable as possible.

It was interesting that in Rick Braun's JS Online chat today, he mentioned that Daron Sutton was "in search of a better opportunity". If that was the case, I wish Sutton wouldn't have told us all that stuff about how much he loved Milwaukee and how this was where he always wanted to be, etc. It all seems so hollow now.

I also wonder if the Nielsen Ratings measurement screwup affected his perception of the Brewers audience and market. I am still confused why Arizona would be considered a "better opportunity" unless they just flat paid him a lot more money. I am obviously biased but I still think Milwaukee is much more of a real baseball town.

Anyway, I am okay with Brian Anderson but he isn't anything special. There is nothing that stands out about him. He's sort of dry. I really enjoyed Sutton's energy and enthusiasm and I miss that.

By the way, I am not faulting Sutton for going for the money, but I also didn't appreciate being duped either. It would have been nice to know in advance that his job with the Brewers was just a stepping stone towards something else. I really think he misled people.

When Vasgersian was here, there was always talk about how he and Bill would be hanging out together on the road all the time. It was kind of weird. They seemed to genuinely get along, however. I don't think Daron is a bad guy or anything, but he seemed more like he was faking the announcing booth camaraderie by sucking up to Schroeder all the time. And Bill seems like kind of a d-bag, so if they didn't like each other as much, it's easy to guess why.

I hated Sutton more than anybody, and I am still glad he is gone. I just could not stand him anymore. BA is dull, but he is much more palatable to me than Sutton. He also gets a break for being new to the job, and he could very well show more excitement when he has settled into the job and followed the team for a while.

Have you been to AZ?

More importantly, has your wife been to AZ?

All I know is that Bill didn't think highly of Daron. I'm not exactly sure why or have any more details.

I liked Daron, and I like BA as well. Dunno, maybe I'm just easy to please in that respect.

I'm that way also.Matt Vasgersian was my favorite of recent history, but in general i don't care that much who calls sporting events i watch.I tune in to watch the game, what the announcers have to say is far far secondary.I wasn't a big fan of Sutton and wouldn't hire him,but it's not like he drove me nuts to where i wanted to turn the sound off.

The only sports announcer that seriously grates on my nerves to where it makes watching the game alot less enjoyable is Paul McGuire when he called football games for ESPN.I'd find myself saying, please just shut the hell up.

this is a bit late but I forgot to post it all weekend.

As Friday night's broadcast from Arizona began (the videotaped pre-game tease that Daron does voice over) Sutton opened with a comment along the lines of, "and now we welcome these warm and friendly Cubs fans to Chase Field" (I'm paraphrasing, but that was pretty close to what was said.

I thought it was funny.
