1st career save?

Recommended Posts

If you pitch the last 3 innings of the game with a lead, regardless of how big the lead is, you get the save. You may remember that Brian Shouse recorded a 3-inning save earlier in the year in a blowout win over the Twins.

i can live to be 100 and never know every rule in baseball

I don't think anyone knows all the rules in Baseball. That's why there's 4 umpires, they only have to know 25% of what's going on. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/tongue.gif

From MLB.com:

Saves:
Rule 10.20 in the Official Rule Book states:
Credit a pitcher with a save when he meets all three of the following conditions:
(1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and
(2) He is not the winning pitcher; and
(3) He qualifies under one of the following conditions:
- (a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or
- (b) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batsmen he faces; or
- © He pitches effectively for at least three innings. No more than one save may be credited in each game.

I always used this rule in video games. Create a starting pitcher, but use him as a 3 inning closer. Then I can rack up about 90 saves a year.
