ESPN: The Face of the Franchise

Recommended Posts

Id go with Sheets, only cause of his longevity with the team. Uecker is not as much as a national figure as he was earlier in his career so I do not think he can be the face of the franchise. When he had his own tv show, was in movies, and was on carson all the time, you may of had a point. When healthy he has been one of the best starters in the nl for a few seasons, this is prince's breakout year, but I am not ready to call him the face of the franchise just yet.

My vote would be Sheets. Unfortunately he is not available. Fielder and Braun are too young and have not been there long enough. Plus, I think Fielder will be gone when his contract is up. Billy Hall just is not the face to me. Nor are Uecker nor the Sausages. When I think of the Brewers, I think of the players, not the announcer nor a mascot.

I voted Uecker. From the most knowledgeable fan to a fan who doesn't know much about baseball at all, almost everyone has heard of Uecker and associates him with the Brewers.

And you mean to tell me they didn't know Kevin Mench's nickname was Shrek, or Cordero's was CoCo, or Turnbow was D-Bow? What about the Hebrew Hammer? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif

The face of the franchise is an expressionless one with a distant stare. It's the same face as the guy who now has to accept the fact that the magic has left his relationship, and there's no getting it back. Or maybe its the guy who was passed up for a promotion at work. Maybe he props his chin up with his hand. He's not enraged--there's no energy left for that. He's just accepted that his lot in life is someone who is destined to tolerate the joy of others while he has none.

While his face is vacant and blank, he can have some solace that there isn't a single drop of urine soaking his pants.

Not this year. . .

Nice. Good post/av, too

Anyway , my vote is for Ueck...his ruddy features even strike me as the Brewers personified if we wanna get literal.

I voted for Prince, and I think it's a good thing that Prince is having the year he is. You have to figure in years past, the Sausages would have been first or second. I doubt the casual baseball fan knows any Brewers players besides Prince or maybe CoCo. But you ask anyone from Kansas City, Tampa, Detroit, Seattle, or some other team that really never plays the Brewers, the first thing they'll think of is the Sausages.

Edit: I mean look at the ESPN Magazine article. What was in there besides Prince? The Sausages. The face of your franchise, at least to me, is the most recognizable player/thing.
