Power 50 (Next update this week, in before draft day Thurs.)

I for one am not the least bit worried about Gwynn's lack of power. Plenty of very effective players in the majors right now whose game is based on speed and defense. I never understood the concern, quite frankly, as it has not detered at all his ability to reach the majors.

Pogo already touched on this point, but how many players in the big-leagues are effective without even a lick of power? You say there are plenty of players that are very effective with speed in defense, but really, there aren't. Wily Taveras and Alex Sanchez, as pogo mentioned, are stop-gaps, or reserves, at best for the teams they play/have played for, and Gwynn doesn't even have that kind of speed (although he's probably a much better defender than both).

Lance Johnson had a nice big-league career without much power, however, Johnson's power would make Gwynn jealous.

I'm not trying to diss Gwynn at all, because his ability to be a solid contributor at the big-league level as a specialist-type reserve made me rank him as high I/we did. #9 in the Brewers system is pretty lofty praise.

I'm rooting for Jr to add just enough power. He could be the next leadoff hitter if he can keep teams honest with the threat of a ball through the gap. It doesn't have to be more than a few HR, just enough to make teams respect what could be.

I've been very impressed this year. Nearly ever at bat leads to a hard hit liner or a near-perfect bunt. He's also had several lineouts to the warning track.

Hey great to see the updated Power 50! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

It seems the stats are not updating for 2007 for any of the players. Can this be fixed please?

Thanks!

I'm just curious how often this will be updated throughout the season? Based on May alone, I see plenty of reason for movement up and down the list (and new additions as well).

New one within the next 48 hours -- rankings are all in between Brad, Patrick, and myself, and I'm in the midst of tabulating the consensus; it'll be my turn for miscellaneous comments this month (pogokat last month, colbyjack next month).
