Who are you most excited about?

I peruse the minor league board, but I must admit I don't keep track of the upcoming players as much as others do.

My question is:

Now that Ryan and soon Yovanni will be with the big league club who do you get most excited about when it comes to them becoming a future big leaguer?

I have usually followed our future stars (Prince, JJ, Corey, at one time Brad Nelson, etc), but now I don't know who to check up on anymore. I take a look at the Power 50. The only one I get real excited about is Inman. I used to check Charlie Fermaint's stats daily, but it seems he struggled at the end of last year and the beginning of this year. Does Charlie's future still look bright?

Just seeing who the guys who pay close attention to the minors get excited about.

Thanks

The obvious choice is Inman for me. I was also getting excited about Braddock before the injury. Manny Para has been pitching very well, and I am excited about him for the first time in two years again.

As fas as positional players I would say Brent Brewer and Darren Ford are the most exciting to watch right now.

Salome is a guy I will probably track mainly because of the position.

I get excited about anyone you can play the up-the-middle positions. Catcher, SS, 2B, and CF. I think if you can get above average players at those positions your team can contend (assuming pitching is taken care of).

I would just love to see the Brewers develop a star CFer. I have always loved to watch the best mlb CF'ers play. Be nice to see some one become the player we thought Krynzel might be.

I'll answer tha by listing who's box score lines I check first:

Boy Jeenius - that is a good way to put my question.

Until recently it was:

Braun

Yo

Inman

Fermaint

Salome

I need a new class of prospects to track.

Everyone has their favorites, but in the context of your point, bringing up potential studs like Braun and Gallardo, the list should be pretty short.

Four players stand out to me:

Angel Salome keeps on hitting, like he has up to this point, and I was really concerned about the broken ankle he sustained last year. We have known all along that Salome is a workout warrior, so seeing him continue to succeed isn't that surprising, but it is very encouraging.

Lorenzo Cain has hit from day one, and despite his slow start, he is hitting very well at Brevard County. I always like seeing players hitting at every level in their young careers, knowing that their power is often that last tool to develop as long as their overall approach is sound.

Brent Brewer has unreal athletic talent, and as much as I was critical of his selection a year ago, I was impressed by the reports of his progress in the fall instructional league as well as how well he has played so far this year after an aggressive promotion to open the season.

And of course, Will Inman, whose career track appears as though it may mirror Gallardo's. He may not have the most ideal size and stuff, but it's not like his stuff is lacking, and he has the presence and aggressiveness to succeed at any level.

Again, there are plenty of other players that I like, Cole Gillespie being one of them, but I believe these four have the greatest chance of being future stars at the big-league level.

box score checks I never miss..

Angel Salome

Wil Inman

Alcides Escobar

Lorenzo Cain

Charlie Fermaint

Mike Brantley

Darren Ford

Steve Sollmann

and I'm just starting to notice

Taylor Green.

Keeping tabs on Jeffress too, but I can't get excited yet.

Sidenotes: Inman Needs a Baseball Card!

speaking of baseball cards, Brantley is really getting alot of attention (2 gold refractors sold so far, 70 and 84 dollars)

I'm a big Gallardo fan, so he's still #1 with me, I always listen or watch gameday of Gallardo and Inman games.

Will Inman

Salome--mainly because if the Brewers actually developed a catcher I'd need to call an ambulance.

Inman's next because it's just too good to be true. If this guy goes to Huntsville and is able to keep his era in the 2.10 range--I'll need to call an ambulance.

And anybody who can draw a walk, and is under 24 years old--they're the real prospects.

Salome: Always hoping the recovery continues

Inman: Knows how to pitch and not just throw

Cain: He's only been playing ball a few years and physically maturing

Ford: Speed beyond comparison - when he cuts down on the k's watchout....can see a big difference in 2007 vs. 2006

Brantley: Plate control is incredible

Braddock: Another kid who knows how to pitch and seems to revel in mastering the zone

Being a Charleston, WV resident has been so much more fun since the brew crew came to town....hope you guys never leave!

You mean you aren't expecting him to keep up his sub-2.00 ERAs, even in the big leagues?

I don't look at one box score or a certain's players boxscore.

I generally look at pretty much everything and everyone. I have my favorites of course... Yo, Brewer, Inman, Salome, and Cain to name a couple.

I guess i'm up and down, I find the hot and cold streaks intriguing so I'll watch a player more closely until their stats level off where I expect them to be. For example, I've kept a pretty close eye on Palmisano and Gillespie all year. Braddock was off, then on, now off again because he's not pitching. Occassionally I'll miss a guy, like Gamel, who was homerless and slugging .314 and wonder how I possibly missed it that late in the season.

Basically, I really enjoy the minor league side, and while I have a couple of must see players, generally I pretty much look at everything. The one thing I don't take time for, is the different game summaries from all the different sources, and sometimes I just skim the summaries do to lack of time, but I always take time to check out the box score and the game log.

Where does Cole Gillespie rate out for defense? Is he a 5-tooler?

I really would like to root for a CF. The Brewers haven't really had a great defender in CF that could take hits away.

The Brewers have had about 14 years of defensive futility since Yount vacated CF. Try ranking this group for worst to not-so-worst defensively. Did I miss anyone who played CF for an extended period of time?

Bill Hall

Brady Clark

Scott Podsednik

Alex Sanchez

Jeffrey Hammonds

Devon White

Marquis Grissom

Gerald Williams

Chuckie Carr

Pat Listach (Forgot he moved to CF for awhile)

Daryll Hamilton

Alex Diaz

Lo Cain was my breakthrough player of the year. After an incredibly slow start, he has been on fire lately.

I study the box of pretty much every Brewer minor league team to look for trends or items of note. Since I haven't actually seen many of the guys play, it's hard to project who has a ceiling that may allow them to excel at a higher level.

Dennis Sarfate - I believe he is the closer of the future.

He has begun to put it together as of late, but is still giving up almost a hit per inning. Id like to see him get the call for the pen before Yo.

I really liked Darryl, but I don't recall if he was great in CF. He made some great plays in RF and I believe was amongst the leaders in OF assists a few of those years though.

Overall though, you are absolutely correct. CF has been a complete wasteland and we have spent a bunch of resources (trades, FA contracts, draft picks--remember Green?) to try to fill that spot. Now we are playing a possible all-star SS out there...mostly because that is where we had a hole to fill.

Would be nice to just develop one that we could put out there for 5-6 years and forget about it.

Are you forgetting James and Lyle Mouton?
