If the Brewers DO win this game, I hope Yost doesn't say "Well, Cappy kept us in the ball game, so I will leave him in the rotation for the time being."

What is your plan then? CV isn't stretched out to start. Parra doesn't have the innings left to start. Gallardo should probably move to the bullpen when Sheets is back. We start someone from AAA instead of letting Capuano get things together? Trade for some pitcher with a crappy contract? Pick up some scrub that isn't good enough to make the other 29 teams?

I just don't see a much better option out there.

Which team was experimenting with using more starters for shorter stints in its minor league system? (They would basically planning to do "committee" games every time out -- 3 guys doing 3 innings each.) I almost feel that the Brewers should do that.

For awhile in Tampa Bay, Lou Piniella tried the inverse pitching staff...he started the game with his bullpen and finished with the regular starters. That was mostly because Piniella's senile and bored and was begging to be fired at the time, though.

Capuano back out for another inning. Kind of strange that you don't pitch Linebrink here, since you're going to PH in the bottom half anyway.

Edit: Reds get lucky with two dinky infield hits to chase Capuano. And hey, Capuano doesn't get booed leaving the field...that was a bit of a surprise considering the people who have been showing up lately will boo anything that moves.

If these young guys can't handle the innings, they need to go to the minors, so we can get some people who can handle the innings.

Maybe our track record with home-grown pitchers would be better if we didn't coddle them until they were 25. I'm certainly not arguing that we should pull a Dusty on them, but there has to be a middle ground. Not only that, but having Parra in the bullpen - at a time when the bullpen is otherwise overworked - is pretty useless if we can never use him.

This isn't a Brewer thing, its a baseball thing. Parra already is doubling his IP over last year, don't you think that is probably enough? Trying to squeeze out 1 or 2 more wins this year isn't worth blowing out the future of our teams arms this season. Starting Parra and/or Gallardo the rest of the year makes absolutely no sense.

I love you Linebrink.

Good job, Linebrink. At least if we extend the Capuano losing streak, it won't completely be his fault. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Nice job Scott. I have more confidence in him then anyone else out in the pen right now. Harang is at 93 pitches to start the 7th, so let's hope they work the count a little bit this inning, and make sure it's his last inning. Oh and Ned, send Linebrink back out for the 8th please, whether they take the lead here or not.

oops....forgot SL's spot in the order is coming up this inning. So why didn't Ned double switch when he brought SL in last inning, so he could get more then 1 inning out of him??

Fine. Then get them to the minors or put them on the shelf until 2008. It's ridiculous to have them "unavailable". Until September 1, they're wasting a spot on the roster that could be used on someone capable of pitching once in a while.

I'm the last to argue that we should kill our young guys. I understand all the stuff about the future. But they're not helping us now if they can't pitch, and I'm thinking it doesn't do a lot of good for them to just be on the major-league roster if they can't pitch.

They aren't unavailable though, they are just used out of the bullpen. Parra is generally the teams long relief guy and Gallardo is filling in for an injury. They both are getting major league experience while playing a role on the team and still trying to keep their innings to a manageable level. I dont' see a problem with that.
