Webb's Scoreless Innings Streak ends at 42

The way the Brewers are hitting it will probably be 51... I caught the highlights on BBTN where one of the announcers also said if will be a heck of an NL rookie of the year race when referring to the .240 hitting Chris Young, thats why I don't normally watch BBTN.

Brandon Webb is one of the best pitchers in the majors. Too bad he doesn't get enough wins to satisfy most people.

I kind of want him to get closer to Orel's record while the Brewers still get the win, but I doubt the Diamondbacks are going to pull him after 7 innings if he has a shutout going. Wednesday should be interesting for sure.

OK, I will go out on a limb and say the Brewers break the streak in the 3rd inning.

The odds are clearly in the Brewer's favor here. Webb's a fine pitcher, at or near the top of the NL right now, but the guy isn't invincible. The pressure will be on him tonight clearly. They'll have a huge home crowd hanging on every pitch. It will be a different atmosphere for sure.

Let's hope Suppan can extend a rare string of two quality starts by Brewer pitchers.

Actually it would be three - Gallardo pitched 6 shutout innings.

42 innings a minium of 126 hitters and he hasn't giving up one run...you know how tough it is? I think 42 right now is more impressive than Oral's 59 due to the new "hitter" ball parks...he has faced most likely close to 160-170 some hitters and didn't make one mistake to give up a HR or a seeing eye single to drive in a run, a flare with a runner on second...it's crazy and I don't care if we lose tonight as long as Webb doesn't give up a run I want 59 to go down! Now if Webb gives up a run I want to pound the crap out of them!

Well, it's also very lucky. He probably has made some mistakes, but hasn't had to pay for them. He's not a guy who makes too many mistakes in the first place. He doesn't walk a lot of guys and he doesn't give up HR's. So he's not making too many mistakes as it is. But to not give up a run is also a little bit lucky. As you pointed out there are plenty of instances where hitters can get on base by luck. Guys can hit good pitches and get on from time to time. It's just that the right combination of guys hasn't.

It's obvious he's pitching like a mad man however.

maybe Webb will keep his streak intact but only last something like 2 2/3 innings due to a blister or some other minor injury.

Yes I agree it is a very lucky thing to do, but I don't think people understand the luck involved to throwing 42 straight...we are talking runs, not earned runs...total fricking runs...it is amazing in my book if you go more than 15 innings
