Is this rock-bottom yet?

clancyphile
Yup. It's rock bottom. The craptacular errorfest where the one offensive bright spot was Hardy hitting a homerun from the 8th spot, where he should be, and the lack of taking pitches and swinging at the first pitch almost every at bat is totally rock bottom.

If we haven't bottomed out yet I don't think I want to be around when we do. With the Reds score now 6-1 we have been outscored 34-8 on this homestand. This for a team which has hung its hat on their home record all year. I certainly hope it doesn't get any worse.

Well, for about a month now there have been two types of posters - those expressing concerns about the direction the team has been heading, and those who have responded with "the sky is falling, the sky is falling!"

Well, has the sky fallen yet?

Sorry optimists, but the 800lb gorilla in the room that you've been ignoring for the past month and a half is right in your face and has a grip around your throat. The time to right the ship was weeks ago. They can't seem to give up less than 8 runs a game, so for all the accolades that people bestow upon Maddux, he better get things figured out in a hurry.

Its funny because until 11 games ago we played .500 ball over that stretch and before our .500 stretch we went 14-4. The bad games really started less than 2 weeks ago but all the I told you so people are coming out in droves to talk about how smart they are.

Basically if you were screaming the team is going down a month ago you were just being a pessimist even if what you said came true. A month ago we were 18-10 in our last 28 games. Unfortunately over that same stretch the Cubs were even better and gaining ground.

That was something else last night. Hopefully all these losses at home all of a sudden will turn into road wins instead. Or something...That Dunn homer was sweet atleast I guess. And since JJ hit so well last night, I'm sure he'll be in the two spot tonight.

I've stopped saying that a certain game had to be rock bottom and they had to start turning it around, everytime I've done that they prove me wrong and play worse the next game.

Please make it stop.

I'm not saying that it is over, i am just recently we are playing very bad baseball, and that play that allowed the batter to score on a routine groundball, cannot happen. The annoucers even said that was very unlikely to see in the Little League World Series! We just need to pick it up a little and we will be fine, getting Sheets back soon will be a major boost.

I wold have to say rock bottom has been hit. After that play last night, two, 10 year olds said to each other, "we don't even do that in our game" I had to laugh at that. Then they gave us a little hope in the 8th as to say we are taking our last breath. Dunn then finished us off with a blast that MP has rarley seen.

Rock bottom for this year will be Sunday September 30 at about 4:00 PM. End of season, end of year.

Remaining road series in Chicago, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Houston yet to be played. Their road record speaks for itself. Then look at the least week and 1/2 of the season. 4 in Atlanta, 3 at home vs. St. Louis, and 4 at home vs. San Diego. I cannot see the Brewers doing well in any of those series.

I keep hearing people (Jim Powell) keep say they can't play any worse than they have been for the past month or so. I ask, why not? They are fully capable of a 10-22 finish which brings us back to 9/30/07 at 4:00 PM.

Well, it's definitely really tough to get enthusiastic about this team right now. To break out the old cliche, the Cubs series is basically "must win". If they drop 2 or 3 to the Cubs, it's going to be very tough to crawl back up the standings at this point.

It's scary how the only reason the Crew is .500 at this point is because of that great start to the season. If they had only played .500-ish ball then, we'd be in third or fourth place easily.

My friend Mike put it perfectly: He's having to come up with a whole new vocabulary to describe his horror and shame at the way the team is playing, the English language not being suitable enough to describe the collapse. I think he'll need to be pretty fluent, since the way things are going, we're not going to break .500 (btw, is that a separate thread? It should be.).
