What is your most recent music purchase?

Pedro

Someone recommended Tab Benoit to me, and I just purchased his latest CD "Power of the Pontchartrain." It's a Louisiana swamp, blues, R&B style. I've had it playing all afternoon. Love it.

So, I thought I'd see what others have purchased recently that they really like. I'm always looking to discover new musicians.

It's not a purchase, but a friend hooked me up with Dr. Ebbetts Beatles Blue Box, which is just amazing. Basically, he took unplayed "audiophile" vinyl copies of 13 UK Stereo releases (which are considered to be the best sounding of all the releases, doesn't include "Magical Mystery Tour"), and digitally recorded them using hi-fi recording equipment.

They sound absolutely stunning, so much so that it makes me want to throw out my "remastered" Beatles box set for being a cheap imposter. You can play these in your car and just blast them, they are so pristine.

But yeah, they're really bootlegs.

Not to offend any long-time Linkin Park fans, but I have been playing their new CD minutes to midnight lately, and it is really growing on me. It is completely different than their first CDs, featuring more of a mixture of classic rock, a r&b/hip hop mix, softer rock, and hard metal that strays away from the screaming and grunge-y type of stuff. About 75% of the songs are slower, and I think it's a GREAT change of pace.

Other musicians in my 6-disk changer: Snow Patrol, AFI, Jack's Mannequin, and Plain White T's... all worth listening to IMO

Yesterday, after searching the internet for a few hours without any success, I broke down and actually bought CD's for the first time in at least five years. I bought:

The Reigning Sound - Break Up, Break Down

The Reigning Sound - Live at Maxwells

Yesterday's Kids - Can't Hear Nothin'

The Obsoletes - Is This Progress?

... I think Reigning Sound is now on my all-time favorite band list, joining Superdrag and the Descendents

I've recently been on a big "blues" kick and picked up Mississippi John Hurt's Library of Congress Recordings. What an amazing talent he was. Additionally I've been loving the Black Key's "Magic Potion".

I love MJH!

My most recent purchase (via emusic) is:

I have been a Linkin Park fan for about 8 years now. And have liked all of their albums. But you are right this is there best, and it is their most diverse. ITs really attracting people who were not big into their previous albums. I think its cool.

Most recent album I bought was The White Stripes "Icky Thump". Really great album, the next album I will pruchase will probably be the new Foo Fighters albums "Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace". The fist single is great, Im sure the rest of it will be as well.

Very cool, Brett. I'll have to see if I can hunt that down.

You shouldn't have much of a problem at all. I had known about these for a while, just hadn't downloaded them, figuring I had the box set and that there was no way that these could really be markedly different. I couldn't have been more wrong, they are way better than any Beatles release on CD to this point. Just make sure you get the lossless FLAC files of these rather than mp3's, because it defeats the purpose.

If someone is a Beatles fan and has never heard them on vinyl (luckily I had a cool dad with a few of the albums), you should definitely grab them. Ebbetts has also done amazing work with other Beatles albums - I highly recommend his Sgt. Pepper's mono release. It is fantastic, and honestly is the way the Beatles intended for it to be heard.

I know I'm about 35 years behind the times, but I finally bought The Allman Brothers Band's Eat a Peach a few weeks ago, and proceeded to love it (particularly the 33 minute "Mountain Jam"). I also bought New Monsoon's newest release, New Monsoon V, about a month ago. I would recommend this to anyone into jam-type bands, as New Monsoon is one of my favorite modern bands because of their ability to combine a ton of different musical styles and sounds from all over the world into their own unique blend. It's worth a shot if you've got 15 bucks to spend and that's your kinda thing.

My most recent music purchases are "Aman Iman" by Tinariwen, "The CD Version of the First Two Records" by Bikini Kill, "Worker's Playtime" and "Don't Try This At Home" (the 2 disc remastered editions) by Billy Bragg, "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" by Spoon, and "Can't Quit The Blues" which is a Buddy Guy box set.

I haven't had a chance to listen to any of those yet though. I'm really looking forward to doing so.

I just got Era Vulgaris by Queens of the Stone Age. It's a great album, but, like all Queens of the Stone Age albums, if you listen to it in the wrong state of mind you start to feel like a serial killer and you have to turn it off.
