The Official Apathy Thread/Raise the White Flag!

jaybird2001wi
I'm with Hall4 Pres. I thought this was supposed to be fun, and it couldn't be less enjoyable. Of course, the first half of this season was the best I've been through as a fan, but the second half has honestly made me way more upset than 2002, and I really don't feel any more interested than I did then. I've always been fairly optimistic, but it seems to be a foregone conclusion that they will blow their final chances and the season's over already.

I must be in the apathy camp because tonights loss didn't sting to me at all.Once Linebrink had guys on first/second,i just knew the lead was about to vanish, the grim reaper always seems to be hanging around a corner waiting to come out and strike.

I guess if the Badgers and Packers weren't ready to start the season, all these gag jobs would still get me angry, but i've been down this road with the Brewers for over two decades.Usually it's by July that i don't really care much if the Brewers win or lose on a given night, this year it started for me around a week to ten days ago when i finally resigned myself that this team was a sinking ship without the ability to change things.

I'll still watch most or check in on games, but the passion and excitement i had for the team has been sucked away from me.I actually miss feeling nervous and mad when we are in the process of blowing another game, that's because i still had hope left, instead of yawning when we choke away the lead.We are 2.5 games back and it feels like 10.I'm now gonna be back to my yearly routine of not caring if i can't watch the game, thats a big bummer,it was great fun looking forward to the Brewer game starting.

Apathy is a psychological term for a state of indifference - where an individual is unresponsive or "indifferent" to aspects of emotional, social, or physical life. Clinical apathy is considered to be at an elevated level, while a moderate level might be considered depression, and an extreme level could be diagnosed as a dissociative disorder.

In that case, let me be the first to admit that I need lots of drugs and counseling.

I echo everyone's sentiments. I find myself not even getting excited over a Brewer win, because I feel like they will just lose the next game or two or three. They can't even seem to get themselves a winning streak going anymore.

I have no confidence in their starting pitching, because it seems like they can't even last 6 innings to save their souls. The offense is so inept it almost seems like they don't even care anymore and because the starters can't last past the 6th inning, the bullpen has gone into overdrive. The bullpen has been overused so much it isn't even funny anymore and I can't even remember the last time the Brewers had a tailor made win, with 7 quality innings by the starter and a good 8th by Turnbow and Coco closing it out. They might as well just tell Turnbow and Coco to wear street clothes in the bullpen because they are never used for their purpose anymore.

I have reached the point where I hope the Brewers crash and burn further the rest of the way to prove a point to the front office that this team is not working, the coaching staff isn't working and they are just not ready to be a competitive team.

I was always skeptical, even during last winter when they made a lack of moves with the only two coming from the signing of Suppan and the acquisition of Estrada from AZ. To make things more disappointing, they did absolutely nothing in the way of trades before the deadline. I knew we were toast when we didn't make a single deal and I knew they were not going to go very far with the team they had in place at the time.

I kind of gave up on the team around the trade deadline because they did absolutely nothing to prove that they wanted to win at that point when it came to personnel.

Here is another thing about why I don't care about this team right now. I don't know why the team continues to play the "injury card" every year. You can always expect Ben Sheets to come down with an ailment, Rickie Weeks' wrists to start hurting, Johnny Estrada straining a hammy because he can't run any faster than a tortoise. It seems like every off-season, management states that "if not for the injuries, we could have won more games." Isn't that starting to become a stale line of defense to say the team collectively stinks or the manager just doesn't know how to manage a game? The General Manager has to draw a line somewhere and say enough is enough with the excuse, we as fans were so dumbfounded during the early 90's over the "we are just a small market excuse" I wonder how long it will take before we get tired of the injury card or the "Estrada can't run card" or the "Ben Sheets get hurt every year card" or the "Rookies will become better next year card."

I mean, if management uses the final excuse five years down the road when Braun is entering his sixth season and Prince his seventh season, you know something is wrong.

They say that we are losers

And perhaps that may be true

Since we don't have a lot of wins

And my interests are few

We are not a worldly team

Well versed in winning

So we prefer to stay at home

Than go on the road to win

We don't go to the playoffs

Or places where good teams play

And we haven't had a winning season in years

Afraid to take a chance

Injuries always make us nervous

Because we are rather dumb

Lacking in the confidence

To be a stand up team

We are not a very clever team

But I can tell an excuse to buy off another losing season

We are neither consistent or durable

And we always have flat breaking pitches

We have a sense of losing

And talents that go to waste

but we always wonder why

That we don't have a playoff team

In spite of all that we are not

We never get depressed

For we've accepted who we are

Being a cellar dwellar

They say that we are losers

And perhaps that may be true

But if we had to change our lives

We don't want to be the Devil Rays!

How can you have an apathy thread? Isn't that ironic? If your apthetic, you don't care. But if you created a thread, you obviously cared.

For myself at least,i obviously still care or i wouldn't be here or watch the games. With that said,i once cared alot whether we won or lost a game this year, now a loss doesn't sting and a rare win doesn't get me amped.I stopped getting really happy to see a Cubs loss when we aren't playing them.

Sorta like if the Packers start out say 4-8,i'll watch the last four games, but not care all that much whether they win or lose.Doesn't mean i don't care at all,but it's hard to have that nervous/excited feeling when you're really into a team if they are in a complete nosedive and show no signs it can fix things.

Very nice post but why do you have to call out the D-Rays?

'Tis the end of the season to be mad at Nedly and the boys!

Well, I am bumping this up to the top for the sole purpose and reason because we are officially toast now.

I anticipate Ned Yost, Tony LaRussa and Prince Fielder being on the Jerry Springer show this offseason with the following context:

Jerry: We are here now with Prince, who says he is mad at his rival Tony for calling a pitch towards his head last year.

AUDIENCE: OOOOOHHHHH

Prince: Jerry, I want to set the record straight. I never asked to be hit and this idiot of a Manager decides to hit me because he somehow hates my coach. I wanna give that guy a piece of my mind today!

AUDIENCE: JERRY, JERRY, JERRY!

Jerry: Alright, now we actually have Tony backstage listening to our conversation. Lets bring him out!

AUDIENCE: Oh. Boo!!!!!!!!

*Fisticuffs flying*

(Wait a few moments)

Jerry: Now, you two... we have a surprise for you both. Here is former coach Ned Yost, who hasn't been listening at all.

Ned: Tony, you are lucky Prince didn't put you in a headlock out there!!!!

I have always seen life for what it really is.

Ever since I was a child growing up, hard times are all I know.

I had to sit back and watch my mother work from sunset to sundown.

I had to sit back and watch my mother work herself to her grave.

Nothing ever came easy for her.

She always had a heart and kept a smile on her face.

Life is like a newborn baby struggling to come out of its mother's womb,

life is a struggle true enough, but after all the struggling you have done,

and after all the hell you have been through, there is success.

Life is nothing but a big struggle, but just keep the faith and focus on your goals.

Don't let life beat you or you will be walking around like zombies.

Keep on pushing, keep on trying, life can be whatever you make it to be.

But life can also be a bowl of cherries with whip cream and apple pie.

I say this again; life is what you make of it.

You can achieve or conquer anything it throws at you,

you can't quit or give up, you have got to keep on working,

look higher some way, some how you are going to make it.

This is an odd Ode to next year!

As I said in the venting thread, that final game against St. Louis turned me off to this playoff race. I am disgusted with the manager, and I am disgusted with the bullpen. I was driving home from work when I heard the Cubs were losing this afternoon and I didn't even care. When the Brewers got down 4-0 today, I didn't feel anything at all. I was not at all upset.

For me it was over when they beaned Pujols and then later failed to replace Turnbow once the bases were loaded. That was my season finale right there. I'll still watch and I have tickets I will use this weekend, but I am not invested in what happens anymore.

I would have never imagined waiting my whole life for a playoff race and then suddenly not caring when you get it. That's how much things disgust me right now.
