The Saltshakers - Up All Night

chadomac

Hi guys. I'm in a rock'n'roll / power pop type of band in Milwaukee and we have an album coming out in early September. Some of our major influences are the Replacements, Tom Petty, the Beatles, Ryan Adams, The Cure, and many more.

You can hear 3 songs from the new album here:

thesaltshakers.com

and here: myspace.com/thesaltshakers

The CD release show is Saturday 9/08 @ Mad Planet in Milwaukee.. and every person that goes to that show gets a free copy of the album. Thanks for listening to anyone that took the time to. I appreciate it. I post a bit in the Brewer related forums but mostly lurk here... but I'm trying to get the word out about the new album, so thanks for checking it out. Go Brewers.

We're on the cover of MKE Magazine this week, which is kinda cool. We've never been on the cover of anything before.

And the show went really really well, it was a total blast. Thanks to anyone that made it out from the Milwaukee area, we appreciate it and had a great time.

Kind of hard to describe... the guy, Matt Berninger, sings in sort of a monotone voice and the songs themselves are really restrained. I love them, after reading the article I'm not sure you would (though I love Pinkerton, too). It's kind of sad, slow stuff. I've seen them compared to Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, and Tom Waits, but the only one that I think sticks is comparing them to Tindersticks. They do have the whole "bleary, 2 A.M." feel of Waits I guess. There are hooks and melodies, though.?

Their album "Alligator" is sort of their poppier one, though they're definitely not inaccessible at all, but the albums require repeated listens for the most part. The most recent one "Boxer" is one of my favorite albums of the year to this point (maybe my favorite).? Here's a couple videos (both of tracks from "Boxer"):

"Fake Empire" on Letterman

"Start a War" (acoustic)

I am not familiar with the National.

I thought he was referring to the now-defunct daily sports newspaper from around 1990.

Congrats on the magazine cover, that's some good publicity and should only help the future of your band.

"His whole life is a fantasy camp. People should plunk down $2000 to live like him for a week. Sleep, do nothing, fall ass-backwards into money, mooch food off your neighbors and have sex without dating... THAT'S a fantasy camp."

Saw these guys with Fever Marlene Friday night at Turner Ballroom, they're the real deal.

If you're in the Milwaukee area, I'd check them out.

Thanks for the endorsement, chuckie. I'm glad you liked the show.
