Avatar = dead

Recommended Posts

I've seen a couple of other busted avatars around here, but I have no clue how the problem would have occurred.

I can tell you how to do this correctly, though.

  • Load your profile. You can get there quickly by clicking on your username at the top of any forum page or in any of your posts.
  • Click the edit button in the 'mini-profile': that's where you see your username, gender, location, etc.
  • You'll be taken to the "Edit Miniprofile" page. Click on the actual avatar (or avatar placeholder) in the "Change Avatar" area. You'll be taken to a page showing any avatars you might have uploaded. If your preferred avatar isn't there, an interface to upload your avatar from your hard drive is provided.
  • Choose your preferred avatar by clicking on it. You'll be brought back to the "Edit Miniprofile" page.
  • While you're on the Edit page, if you'd like, you may make other profile adjustments. When you're done, make sure you hit the save button at the bottom.

I love irony, therefore I love 1992casey's avatar in post #2.
The moral here: if you've used an avatar to post, don't delete it from Yuku.

Brewerfan 'unchecks' the "all posts using current avatar" setting. That means that old posts continue to display old avatars. If you happen to delete an avatar, there's no way to upload it back to Yuku to restore it. That's because Yuku automatically assigns cute filenames such as "4dd1585342554e011a185c7917f21b9e4a3b3af_t.jpg" to uploaded files.

This actually happened when I tried to 'fix' something that wasn't mine to fix. My avatar wouldn't display because some of Yuku's image servers had gone down. I should have waited, and I definitely shouldn't have deleted.
