It will make everyday compelling when Braddock returns. Jeffress seems to be settling in well. No need to discuss Will & Yo...their reputations precede them! Parra has been great and don't leave out McClendon!! If these guys stay healthy and prove they can pitch further levels up, this organization is going to rival the old Braves staff, but let's enjoy them now and watch them develop.

McClendon doesn't do it for me, he seems to be a soft tossing sinkerball pitcher. His early success is encouraging, but I have to wonder how that's going to translate as he moves up. He better be able to locate like a bandit cause he's going to have a tough time getting the ball past anyone.

Final, Game One: Lakeland (Tigers) 5, Brevard County 2

MiLB.com game Notes:

Flying Tigers rally past Manatees

Doubles from Justin Justice and Rafael Mendez capped a five-run seventh inning rally as Lakeland beat host Brevard County, 5-2, in the opener of Thursday's doubleheader.

Trailing 2-0, in the top of the seventh, the Flying Tigers (26-31) broke through against the Manatees' bullpen. Justice drove in the tying and go-ahead runs with a one-out double to right field, scoring Ovandy Suero and Wilkin Ramirez.

Mendez added an insurance run when he doubled in Justice. Leadoff man William Rhymes was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Paul Hammond (1-1) got the win in relief as he struck out two and gave up two hits in two scoreless innings. Starter Kyle Sleeth allowed one unearned run on two hits and a walk while striking out three in four frames.

Brevard County (33-26) opened the scoring in the fourth when Mat Gamel punched an RBI single through the right side. Gamel went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base.

Manatees reliever Kevin Roberts (2-1) took the loss after allowing three runs on four hits while retiring just two batters. Brevard County has dropped five straight. -- Michael Echan/MLB.com

Brevard County Box Score:

Vince Perkins and Kevin Roberts combine to lose a 2-0 final inning lead; as noted above, LHP David Welch continues to impress; Mat Gamel a surprising 9-for-11 in SB attempts...

It's surprising this seven-inning game even lasted 2:11, given the several apparent "quick" innings detailed here...

In progress: West Virginia 4, Lexington (Astros) 3, after six innings

Unexpectedly, there's no video feed tonight, so sorry to those who sought that option; Greensboro is losing 5-3 after five innings -- this could be a clincher of a night...

I live in Omaha and was looking forward to seeing a great pitching performance with Yo pitching tonight.

Yo looked awful, tonight,,,He could not throw a strike to save his life and when he did throw a strike the Omaha Royals were spanking the Ball.

Some notes that I wrote on my scorecard.

In the first inning, Yo gave a up hit that snuck by Brad Nelson just inside the Bag at First Base. Yo then threw a four pitch walk and then through another four pitch walk with one of the balls being a Wild Pitch.

With the Bases Loaded, Yo through one down the heart of the plate and Justin Huber absolutely crushed it to dead center over the 408 foot sign. It actually cleared the secondary fence behind the 508 sign which is about 20 feet higher than the regular fence.

On the positive side, Yo struck out the next batter and sawed offed the bat of the batter after that and induced a weak fly to short center caught by the second basemen.

In the Second inning, Yo Walked the first two batters on 5 and 6 pitches....and the third batter of the inning, sacrifice bunted (This really suprised me, why would you sacrifice when you have a pitcher that cannot find the strike zone) Yo followed that up with another walk to load the bases. He then Struck out Billy Butler looking on some nasty pitches and then induced a groundball to get out of the inning.

In the Fifith inning Huber unloaded to left Center another Home run off Yo and it was a no doubter as well. This helped Chase YO, I believe he pitched to one more batter before he was replaced by Sarfate.

The Radar gun on the screen never clocked Yo over 85 MPH...I thought maybe the Gun was a little slow as some of the pitches sure popped the Glove and you would look up and the pitch speed would say 81. Being that it is the home to the College World Series, I would think they would have high quality radar gun, but there were many times, they would not post any speed, so it might not have been working properly. There were some pitches tonight that showed me that Yo definitely has nasty stuff, but he was struggling with his control so much that the only Strikes he was throwing were directly over the plate.

Hendrickson on the other hand looked unhittable for the first 6 innings....I was hoping to see a dominant pitching performance, but I was not expecting it to be Lil Ben.

The Sounds did not get much done offensively with only one Extra Base hit tonight...Nothing Stood out defensively as well with.

All in All it was good to see the Sounds come to town, I will not get a chance to see the next three games as we will be out of town this weekend, but I sure hope this was just one of those days for Yo and not signs of things to come.

I am a sucker for the WV club...WOW!

But in the spirit of draft day and all of the projected promotions...I say Mike McClendon is a no brainer for various reasons. He has dominated in Low A. It's time he needs to prove himself at the next level. I am not suggesting that he gets a free pass, but as one of the older Power Players...he needs to make the jump and make it happen for himself & the organization. You're not going to promote a young kid like Braddock or Shanks over McClendon. It's a good position to be in, right?

Congrats to a great WV club. I hope the promotions do not disrupt the overall chemistry this club has. I believe that they believe they have that "stuff" this year.

Go Power!

Final: West Virginia 9, Lexington (Astros) 5

West Virginia Site Game Summary:

Along with notes from MiLB.com...

POWER CLINCH WITH FIVE RUN NINTH

Andrew Lefave paced the Power with four hits on Thursday night, and his fourth hit was his biggest, a three-run bomb in the ninth inning to put the Lexington Legends away as the Power clinched the first half Northern Division title with a 9-5 victory over the Lexington Legends, guaranteeing them their first post-season bid since 2004.

A steady wind blew out toward right field all game, making a slugfest a definite possibility. Neither team disappointed--the two lineups combined for six home runs.

West Virginia took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning on back-to-back home runs from Kenny Holmberg and Taylor Green. Lexington scored the next three runs to take their only lead of the game. Nick Moresi hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third, Tim Torres hit a solo homer to tie the game in the fifth inning and Lexington took a 3-2 lead on Eric Taylor?s run-scoring single two batters later.

West Virginia answered quickly, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth to regain the lead. Steve Chapman?s groundout plated Lefave and Holmberg doubled off the wall in center field to bring in Andy Bouchie, giving the Power the lead for good.

In the ninth inning, the Power scored five runs on three hits to pull away. Lefave hit the backbreaker, a towering three-run bomb which cleared the Party Deck with plenty of room to spare, his fifth of the season, to plate the first three runs. Bouchie was hit by the very next pitch and scored on Steve Chapman?s double. Chapman scored later in the inning on a passed ball. Lexington didn?t go quietly as they scored twice in the bottom of the ninth on Ralphie Henriquez?s fifth home run of the season.

The 23-year-old Lefave has gone 13-for-27 with three homers, 16 RBIs and 11 runs scored over his last eight games.

Travis Wendte (4-0) was outstanding for the Power. He tossed four hitless innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one batter to reach, and struck out five to get the win. Starter Mike Ramlow surrendered three runs -- two earned -- on seven hits and one walk while fanning four in four frames, while Lexington's Casey Hudspeth (2-5) was tagged with the loss.

The Power improved to 41-16 with the win and the Legends fell to 27-33 with the loss. West Virginia clinches the first half division title with eleven games to spare. The victory means that in September, Appalachian Power Park will host its first ever postseason South Atlantic League contest. While Lefave paced the Power with four hits, Brent Brewer, Brantley and Bouchie all had three hits apiece. The Power scored nine runs on 17 hits, marking the 8th straight game that they?ve recorded double digit hits.

The Power will continue the four game series against Lexington at Applebee?s Park on Friday night. The Power will start right hander Mike McClendon (5-2, 2.87) and Lexington will counter with lefty Polin Trinidad (3-3, 4.32). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM (6:05 Central).

West Virginia Box Score:

Rare 0-for-5 nights for both Darren Ford and Chuckie Caufield, but as always, this roster continually picks each other up -- 17 hits tonight, eight for extra bases...
