Gabe Gross: looking good

Recommended Posts

Yea I've seen him play in 2 games. He's really tearing it up and his on base is pretty high. He did have an error in the field last night (looks like he lost it in the sun). I don't know if it really matters what he does until the Brewers pitching staff gets somewhat settled down to the point where they can send one down to Nashville.

Gabe and Gwynn are in the same boat. Both will be on the roster in September, just really aren't needed until then. The Brewers sent them down to get them swinging the bats well so they are ready for Sept

Welcome Nashville Badger. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Tiny, tiny sample, of course, but these are Gabe's 2007 Nashville numbers vs. lefties:

 <span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">AB</span> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">BA</span> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">OBP</span> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">SLG</span> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">OPS</span></span>
30 .267 .389 .500 .889

Gabe's 2005 AAA numbers vs.lefties (another small sample):

 <span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">AB</span> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">BA</span> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">OBP</span> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">SLG</span> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">OPS</span></span>
94 .277 .364 .436 .800

As I keep mentioning, I'd love to see his career minor league numbers vs. lefties.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I'd like to see what Gross could do as a starter. He may not be a world beater agianst lefties but he should be able to hold his own agianst Loogys and could sit on most days when there is a lefty starter. That chance may come next year but I doubt he gets called up earlier than September this year.

It comes down to our manager needing the crutch of a 13th pitcher. Most managers can easily manuever with 12, but Ned is challanged. So the Brewers continue to be a bat short on the bench.

Yea it's Ned's fault his starters can't get past the 5th inning. If the sun stopped rising in the east I'm sure It'd be his fault as well.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

I'd like to see Gross start, but I don't know if that will happen with the Brewers. He is still somewhat young in age.

As far as Ned, I think some just don't like the way he has used the bullpen. It obviously isn't his fault with the struggles of the starters getting through 5 innings. Hopefully the off day today will help rejuvenate the boys a bit.

I suspect the Brewers are looking beyond Gross now. He'll be 28 next season and the Brewers will consider themselves contenders next year. If there's one thing Melvin is thinking now, it must be that he needs a strong, consistent, veteran bat.

I like Gross a lot and think he'd do well as an "almost" regular. But a contending team doesn't take a chance on a placeholder at a key offensive position.

If you want to talk about Ned's "need" for 13 pitchers, please choose the appropriate Yost thread.

If you want to get into the topic of 13 pitchers without getting into 'all things Yost', it's likely a good thread-starter.

This guy used to freak me out when I was younger. He kind of looks like Jeff Dahmer.
