Coming to Milwaukee with a few questions!!!

gebc1997

I'm coming from PA to see the Fri/Sat Red games this week.

1. I am staying at the Best Western Woodsview Inn. Is this a good choice, and is it easy walking distance from the park?

2. Give me a good suggestion to do on Saturday before the game. I have a wife and 3 boys (9/7/4).

Don't know anything about the hotel but I do know it's about 1.5 miles from Miller Park and you'll have to drive it. Which isn't that bad because there isn't much in the way of hotels or anything for that matter around Miller Park.

Since you have kids Brewery Tours are out of the question.http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/happy.gif

You could take them to the Milwaukee County Zoo if they like that. http://www.milwaukeezoo.org/

Or you could go to the Betty Brinn Children's Museum downtown or Discovery World. http://www.discoveryworld.org/HTMLSite/

Or if you want to be outside you can head to Irish Fest down on the Lakefront.

Walking distance? Well, it's a little hike but won't be bad at all. Miller Park isn't really an urban stadium. It's sort of in the middle of a lot of things, but not really around anything. It's easy access for people from all over, by car. But there isn't anything to do right around it. Nothing noteworthy anyways.

Brewery tours are actually not off limit at all. I used to go when I was a kid. They serve beer to adults and soda to kids afterwards and is actually a good idea. It's fun.

I don't have any good ideas off the top of my head for a family. What did you have in mind?

But these are younger kids on vacation. Do you really think they're going to want to go on a Brewery Tour? I mean it's great if they do want to I just can't imagine that being close to the top of their list.

Maybe I was an abused child, but I know I would have preferred a Miller brewery tour to a day at the Betty Brinn museum!

I would to. But at age 4 I'm not sure. Maybe if the kids were a little older but I don't really think a Brewery Tour is at the top of a 4 year olds list of things to do.

ts walking distance. You cut right through the VA grounds. Now with a 4 year old you might need to be prepared to do some carrying though.

As for what to do, the big things going on are Irish Fest at the lake. At the Zoo its ala carte that weekend where a bunch of Milwaukee resteraunts set up shop at the zoo for walking and eating. The biggest problem with those things is that both involve a bit of walking and depending on the heat that might not be that great with kids (though the zoo does have AC in many buildings)

The most common question for out-of-towners always seems to be hotel access from the ballpark. I am surprised a Ramada or Holiday Inn hasn't attempted to buy a parcel of land and build a hotel nearby by now.

But the Discovery World and Children's Museum are great ideas. When I was in elementary school (which was like 15 years ago) I had a fun time at the Discovery World. I don't even think Betty Brinn existed when I was that age.

If you are anywhere near downtown, you won't find much to do that can involve kids. Unless your wife loves shopping, there isn't much else in downtown Milwaukee (shopping is a generous term for Grand Avenue Mall).

If you have a vehicle, you could maybe see if you can tour some of the Milwaukee County Parks (I know the Wehr center at Whitnall Park isn't too bad, but it is like a very miniature zoo with a couple educational tours). Other than that, there isn't much else out there.

But you should be able to spend the majority of the day at Discovery World and Irish Fest before the game without having to do much else.
