If Cappy can't go next week is it Yo?

With Cappy out of tonights game with a sore groin and Yo going yesterday it looks like he would slide into that spot pretty nicely.

I know CV could go in that spot, but it is nice having him in the pen.

Any Thoughts?

If Cappy can't make his next start, i would think they would put him on the DL, retroactive to his last start. Villy would likely stay in the rotation, and Yo would be called up to fill CVs role in the bullpen.

No offense to you but why hasn't Villy earned a shot at starting? He's like the Corey Hart of the pitching staff.

I'm not sure why everyone is so anxious for Villaneuva to start? He is excelling in his current role and is very valuable in it. Why fix what ain't broken? I don't see why he wouldn't be a valuable starter as well but who's to say for sure. He can start next year out of spring training.

Cause it makes sense to have your best pitchers in the bullpen? He sure looked crappy last year down the stretch, amazingly I had forgotten how bad he was starting.

It makes much more sense to bring up the kid that hasn't pitched more than 155 innings in his career and has trouble pitching more than 6 innings without hitting 100 pitches and insert him into the starting role.

If it's just for one or two starts I think it makes a lot of sense to bring up Gallardo. Lets see what we have. I'm not at all thrilled with the idea of Gallardo going to the pen mid season. I would make more sense to treat him like a true fifth starter in the majors and skip him to keep the innings down. I think people will be surprised with how well he would do. When you strike out as many as Gallardo you will get higher pitch counts and less innings.

I agree with jackalope. If Capuano will only miss another start or two, call up Yo to get a little experience. If Capuano will miss a month or more, I'd like Villy to get stretched out for the role.
