Moves on the off day?

razzzorsharp

I think they were confident that what they had going into this year could sneak out a division title, give the young guys a taste of the playoffs, add one or two more solid players this upcomming offseason and THEN make the push for a WS ring. They've been patient so long, I find it hard to believe they were full blown on this year being the year.

IF this happens I would be happy as well -- I suspect though, that making the playoffs may be a stretch at this point... While a game is a game in the standings -- much like any playoffs sport, how you finish, is probably as important as anything -- For example, if you made me chose between two teams that went 0-81 to start the season and 81-0 to end the season -- I am going to take the team that finished 81-0 over the team that started 81-0 and ended up 0-81.

"any chance that Hernan Iribarren gets the call over Weeks"

Over Callix Crabbe too?

No chance.

If Yost were to get fired, Svuem and Maddux have to go also.

If there were a replacement on the current coaching staff it would have to be a guy who could change the tone and atmosphere around the team and that guy is Ed Sedar, not Dale Svuem. I still thing the best move would be to put Kremblas in there as manager and Kyles as pitching coach.

This thread, not suprisingly has taken the form of another "Fire Ned Yost" thread, so let's pile on. I am not a Ned Yost fan, but can confidently say that he is not the one(s) getting lit up day in and day out either in the starting rotation or the bullpen. Now granted he makes some poor decisions on when to leave guys in, but I actually think he is getting a quicker hook. Unfortunately there is no reason to hook when you are already getting killed.

The only way Yost gets fired is if he does something criminal or ethically indecent.

As someone else said above, Yost isn't the problem. It's not his fault his starters are pitching like crap for the most part. You know with Maddux they're well-prepared. They're not executing. Same deal with the hitters.

After a total blowout like yesterday, extending a losing streak to 4 games, and playing successively worse in all 4, it's so easy to look at this like the sky is falling. Heck, I woke up a 4 this morning for no obvious reason and the first string of thoughts going through my head was imagining a series of notes on the ESPN ticker commenting on Yost's firing. But the team's not really as bad as they're playing right now. And they weren't quite as good as the 24-10 streak they started on. They SHOULD be somewhere in the middle of those two, generally at least a bit above average.

The thing that does concern me is that after their high-water mark of 14 over .500, and whenever it was they reached that point again around early July or so, they're 9 games under .500, which is downright bad.

Weak points?

- underperforming starters (esp. Cappy & Suppan, our #2 & #3 starters, both pitching like borderline #5's), and consequently...

- overworked relievers,

- poor offensive production from Hall (CF), Weeks (2B)

- major dropoff in production from Hardy

- only ordinary production from LF

- bench players, who defense is fine but none of whom are really lighting it up like Cirillo & Gross did last year or Gwynn did early this season

The nice thing is that all of these things COULD turn around. I just hope the majority of them do. This division is just sitting there for the taking. And the Brewers SHOULD be able to grab hold of it and run away. While winning it in any way beats not making the playoffs, it'd be something of a shame to win it almost by default, as the Cardinals did last year.
