Report: Shannon Stewart claimed by Cubs

bobskube

Bruce Levine of AM-1000 in Chicago is reported that the Cubs have claimed Shannon Stewart from the Oakland A's.

They have 48 hours to work out a deal between the two clubs or else deal is null and void.

This would help Cubs outfield a bit, which could be enough to win our anemic battle or our division.

He's a nice veteran, but very fragile.
"His whole life is a fantasy camp. People should plunk down $2000 to live like him for a week. Sleep, do nothing, fall ass-backwards into money, mooch food off your neighbors and have sex without dating... THAT'S a fantasy camp."

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Is Stewart really better than Murton? Really don't get why Murton is treated so poorly. He's shown more than everyone's fave Crawford at the same age. I understand Murton started slowly, but really its like last year didn't happen.

It's because Murton really has only one tool, hitting. He botched a number of plays in the OF earlier in the season and that got him into Lou's doghouse, he can't play CF, and he's not particularly fast. Baseball execs and managers aren't overly enamoured with guys who can hit well, but not great, and that's all they do.

But getting Stewart wouldn't really be replacing Murton, it would be replacing Fontenot/Cedeno, because with Stewart the Cubs could move DeRosa back to the second base, which would probably be an upgrade at the plate and defensively in the OF. Stewart also hits righthanded so they could platoon him with Jaques Jones or Cliff Floyd as well. I do think getting Stewart would help the Cubs in the short term.

I haven't seen it mentioned here yet, but Aramis Ramirez has been out the last two games with a wrist injury and went back to Chicago for tests so he'll be out at least another couple of games. Having him out for any period of time would be a much bigger hit than Soriano to the Cubs.

Plus, Angel Pagan was just put on the DL today for colitis.
oh, that's terrible. I don't know much about Colitis, but I do know that it ruined Dajuan Wagner's NBA career. He had to get his colon removed, which is horrifying. While that apparently isn't that common, removal of the large intestine to treat the disease is, which is perhaps equally horrifying. Apparently only 1 in 10,000 people get this disease, so bad luck for Angel. I know many of us dislike the Cubs, but I wish Angel all the best and I hope he is able to get through this without having have large swaths of his gastro-intestinal tract removed.

Yes it is bad. We had a wrestler on our team who had it. It took forever for him to get right agian and it was painful. He had a bunch of his intestines removed. I won't get to graphic but ever since he has to go to the bathroom every couple hours. I'd rather lose the division to the Cubs than have someone suffer like that.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.
