Non baseball autographs

gypcasino

The autographs by mail thread got me wondering if anyone collect any other types of autographs? I've got a pretty huge collection of NASCAR autographs, a lot which I've gotten through the mail. All you have to do is send out a 9x12 SASE and request a "hero card." Obviously you've got a better shot with lower tier stars than you do with someone like Gordon or Earnhardt. I've had about an 80% success rate.

I've also been collecting autographed photos of the Governors. This is really easy to do. All you have to do is fill out the form on their website and request one. I think every one I've gotten so far is preprinted or autopenned but it's still fun and sometimes you'll get some extra stuff.

And if you want TV/Movie celebrities, I'd suggest checking out www.fanmail.biz You can get a pretty good idea of who signs through the mail and what you're going to get. I sent out about 30 requests last month and have gotten 5 back already.

I've got a few Packer items highlighted by a 1962 team-signed football.

My other area of collecting is autographed albums/memorabilia, mostly standards and jazz: Sinatra, Dean Martin, Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, BB King, Ella, John Lennon, Nat King Cole. And an autographed Golden Nugget menu from the early 1960s signed by all of the Rat Pack, for those of you who know who they are.

Peavey - I've never bought anything signed from E-Bay either; I just don't trust it. A lot of my stuff has come from a store in New Orleans (www.vintage429.com) that we visit quite a bit when we're down there. They use some well-qualified authenticators, work with Sotheby's, and don't buy items from off the street, so I feel very confident in the purchases (as confident as one can be not getting it signed in person). I've purchased some other items from Heritage Auctions.

The 1962 Packers football was actually just luck; a guy who was doing work in our house noticed some of my other memorabilia and told us about this football he got years ago from his aunt who used to work for the Packers...yada,yada,yada...my wife surprised me with it for an anniversary gift. I did a little research and found out it was a ball given to Packer employees, big sponsors and the like following their second championship.

I have a Favre photo and jeresy signed, a Tiger Woods Upper Deck piece, Ken Griffey Jr jersey signed, a Bo Jackson Upper Deck piece, a Mike Richter piece, and some pucks and a jeresy signed by a guy who plays in the NHL. My next quest is a Gretzky autographed item or a LaDainian Tomlinson photo.

I also have a Dave Matthews Band signed guitar.

eBay is fine for signed stuff, you just have to be smart about it. With autos I won't buy from anyone with feedback under 99.5%, and make sure it always comes with a legit COA. Not a COA from some dude's company, but you can almost always find signed stuff of eBay that comes with PSA/XMI/DNA authentication.

Legends of the Field sells a lot of stuff on eBay which is MUCH cheaper than the stuff in their store. I don't think there's any question they're selling legit stuff.

In regards to eBay, I was referring to non-sports items, specifically older autographed albums, photos, etc. of jazz and music legends. In fact, I forgot, I did purchase a PSA-authenticated Rabbit Maranville cut signature a few years ago on EBay. But, by-and-large, for the items I'm looking for, I stay away from eBay.

There stuff is legit, I have been to their shop and know the owners. They are cheaper on eBay considering you win the auction at the right time. I have seen authentic aign Favre jerseys sell on eBay by them go as low as $250 and high as $400 + so it's ust like a normal eBay auction it depends who you are bidding against.
