Bonds hits number 756; sets record

The record's been broken; it will be broken again shortly. Now all that's left is the very public destruction of a man almost universally hated. The majority of people will have their souvenir, will have their Grendel nailed to the wall, will have their revenge. So people buck up; your time is coming. The mighty will fall and the satisfaction will be even greater. The righteous will prevail; Barry's story is the story of Macbeth. He's the new OJ.

I just hope that people can be patient. The Feds will take their time, and Shoeless Joe has been waiting this long for company--he can wait a little longer. But I expect this scripted drama to take more time; it's complicated. The charges and the guilty verdict has to be done in a way that doesn't indict baseball's complicity in steroids. Bud Selig and his office have to be protected from its tacit approval. And then there are the other players that have to be protected, the Roger Clemens and those just as guilty as Barry. If too many players are brought down, then baseball could well go back to the bad old days when almost no one was going out to the park.

After the charges are levelled, and the jury takes their muster of Barry Bonds, we can always leave him out of the Hall Of Fame. He can hang out with Pete Rose, and other nefarious types. The Roman circus/theater is upset, and the thumbs down is on its way. Everyone smile!

I think it's unfair to hold him above everybody else just because he's setting records. I don't know if anyone can prove that he wouldn't have hit the number of homers otherwise, but it's a moot point now. Steroids were a part of MLB and that's what they have to live with now. It's hard to single someone out because of use just because it's Bonds.

Just to clarify my position.....I think everyone who was on the juice is a scumbag. So in that respect, I don't hold him above anyone else. The thing that irks me about Bonds is that he flaunts it so much.

Congrats to Barry for hitting #756. Ken Griffy Jr and Bonds were by far the best players I have seen play in my 25 years on this planet. Also huge props to Hank Aaron for that video that played after Bonds hit the HR. That was class at its highest level. To bad Bud Selig didnt have as much class as Aaron. We all know what Bonds probably did, but he was a great player long before that and with the entire era having a cloud over it. 756 still is quite an accomplishment.

The thing that bothers me the most about Bonds and the whole "steroid era" is that any time someone does something great in baseball, especially if it has to do with power numbers, it will always be questioned. The innocence of baseball has been damaged and I'm not sure it can be repaired. If A-Rod breaks the record it will be questioned. If someone hits 73+ HRs in a season it will be questioned. It's going to be hard not to be skeptical of any HR record that is broken from now on.

I remember being a kid and if someone got off to a quick start in HRs, I thought boy it would be great if they kept it up and challenged 61. Now, it's almost like I don't want anyone breaking any more HR records because of the question of legitimacy. No matter how much testing they do, any big time HR hitter from now on (clean or not, grand jury testimony or not) will always be looked at with a bit of suspicion.

I'm just glad it's done with. I didn't want him to break the record, but I knew it would happen. Now he can fade into obscurity as he finishes the season with a losing baseball team, then maybe make a Sosa-type move next year with an AL club and finish out his career.

It's a sad day to be a fan of the game. As mentioned before, baseball has survived scandals and issues before, and will survive this. Bonds is a jerk, and may or may not (I believe may) have juiced and has used his "armor" to break probably the most well-known statistic in all sports. Will someone else come along and break it? Sure. Records are made to be broken. Will Bonds' record have an asterisk next to it? Maybe. I didn't watch it, and don't care to. To me, Hank is the HR king, not Barry.

Well lets see never had 50 homers in a season and somehow hits 73

McGwire doesnt want to "live in the past" as in admit his 70 home runs were un natural

Bonds, MGwire, Sosa, Giambi all had very noticeable body changes and you dont all of a sudden hit 73 home runs when you are 37, give me a break, did he magically get that much better that he could hit 25 more home runs than he ever had in his previous 10 plus years? And let us not forget his flaxseed oil, there is a lot of damning evidence, the only thing that is missing is a picture of him sticking himself in the butt. And Ill bet a million bucks he is one of the blacked out names in the Grimsley confession

Bonds showing some class about the Home Run Ball:

"I just hope he wasn't hurt," Bonds said. "I don't want the ball. I never, ever believed that a home run ball belongs to a player. He caught it, it's his."

So with that said how much do you think the ball will sell for(if the owner sells it).

I think Bonds took PEDs, but in my mind, most of the players in that era were on something. The guy's a Grade-A jerk, but he's probably vilified a bit too much in my opinion. Hank Aaron should be commended for his video message to Bonds, and it was actually kind of nice to see Bonds acting almost like a human being after hitting it. As for breaking the record, Bonds may hold it now, but he'll never, ever be the complete all-around player that Hank Aaron was...but maybe that's just me.

I hope when Favre breaks the record he just leaves the field like that too. No need to play out the game when you are strictly going for records.

oh my god....any one with a little common sense in their head knows favre is not playing for records.
