When I have children, I'll teach them about Barry Bonds much the way Bob Costas described him.....one of the greatest players of all time who got an inauthentic boost and then became a superhuman player. I despise the man, as much for his off-field behavior as for his assault on the most cherished record in American sports.

The whole Bonds family seems classless. Barry throwing his arms up in the air for way too long. His son jumping out of the dugout before his teammates, hey buddy you aren't part of the team. The daughter with her dumb little chicken calls to the pitchers. Maybe I am being harsh but I don't care. The only reason I would even remotely celelbrate is the fact that now he can retire and I can see contending teams play instead of the SF Barrys.

The first thing that pops to mind is the quote from Watergate/Nixon's resignation..."Our long national nightmare is over"

Now maybe ESPN and sportsradio can go back to talking about things we care about.

Yeah, you're being too harsh. I don't like Bonds, but come on. This was an exciting moment for him and his family.

By the way, his teammates didn't give him much of a congrats. The hugs and pats on the back seemed really half-hearted.

So now do the Giants fold as a franchise? What else do they have to look forward to? Other than Tim Lincecum, their entire roster is old and I don't think they have much of a farm system.

Not a whole lot of kids have or even know what class is. They are just being kids man, no need to lump them in with Barry, but congrats to Barry and as well the Mets fan that looked like he survived a brutal pile up for that ball

Yeah, I guess the sobering reality now of being in last place with no hope of getting out sets in now for Giants fans.

Look who their father is.....are you really surprised?

Now that Bonds has the record, you think its time that Selig and steroid investigator George Mitchell call a press conference for a bombshell of information? Somewhere down the line, does one believe that it will be a record with an asterisk if or when Bonds' real steroid info comes out?

For such a big record, the chase and final homer was incredibly unexciting,to me at least.

I'm not a Bonds hater or a fan of his,but big records can at times be cool to watch. The homer and celebration tonight pretty much brought out a yawn from me and more just relief it's over so the talk about Bonds can end after a week or two of the media debating him actually breaking the record.Talk i will largely be ignoring because i'm tired of hearing the debate and don't really care anymore.

He cheated and it's a sizable reason he was able to break the record,if anyone else feels differently,so be it.Hopefully in some years Arod gets the record nobody will beat for a LONG time.

You know what I hate most about all of this?

Aaron has been lost in all of this. This should be a celebration of him as much as it is a celebration for the record. But he's almost an afterthought on all this. To me, that's almost a crime and I will forever hold Aaron high because what he did when he did it was far more significant than just about anything any ballplayer could do today.

I reeeeeeeeeeally think it's unnecessary to take potshots at children, regardless of the circumstances, but I'm sure my opinion will be offensive to someone regardless.

You're right I should not have taekn a shot at the kids. My fault, but that doesnt mean I feel any different.

I hope when Favre breaks the record he just leaves the field like that too. No need to play out the game when you are strictly going for records.

Seriously, I think you are being way too harsh here. Bonds gave the Giants the lead with the homer, so it's not like he didn't help his team (he had a hit earlier, too). Plus, they typically pull him for a defensive replacement late in games, anyway.
