Success with autographs through the mail?

cweber39
i can't see the smudge very clearly, is it on the top right of the "R"

also, does he write anything back or just send the photo.

smudge is on top left of the "R"

and no, he wrote nothing back, but that would be a lot to expect wouldn't it?

Has a smudge from when he loaded into the top-loader too soon, but not too bad!!!

I'll take it!

those are horrible smudges, i wonder if they did that on purpose. I can't believe how bad those are. it isn't your fault, and I hope you are happy with it, but man, just a couple more seconds would have worked.
I doubt they were on purpose, why would they be? If they thought people were going to sell them, why sign them? They are in a hurry I can't even imagine the bags of mail they get, I would be in a hurry also, to try and get through all my fan mail.

This weeks lesson is don't use a toploader.

Yeah -- you should never use a toploader for cards or photos.

Prince DID NOT do that on purpose -- It happens from putting the photo in the envelope too fast.

I quit sending toploaders when some of the guys started signing the top-loader instead of the photo.

They can also get jammed in the post offices machinery, and tear your package.

how can they not know that they you want the 8x10 or card signed?

It's happened to me on a couple of occasions... I quit doing it long ago. It could be because of all or some of the following.

1.) Some athletes don't realize that the toploader is separate from the item

2.) Some athletes are not too smart

3.) Some athletes get pissed because they have to do more work

4.) Some athletes think it is funny.

Yes, had he waited a few seconds, it wouldn't have smudged, however, I am just grateful that he signed it at all. For me it isn't it's future value, it is the fact that the guy took time from his day and signed it for me, that is what is cool to me. I can deal with the smudge, he signed it, and that is what I wanted.

There is no way these guys load them up too soon on purpose, why bother to take the time to sign at all if they want to wreck it. He could have just as easily tossed it into the garbage and never had to worry about it again, instead, he opened it, removed it from the top-loader, signed it, took the time to put it back in the top-loader, put it in the bubble wrap envelope and sealed it, then dropped it in the mail.

Thanks Prince and Ryan!

billyhallfan[/b]]no, i just want them to be in the best shape possible. I'm not saying that you shouldn't like them, or that you should throw them away, or that I am better than you, or that they are jerks, I'm just saying that if they were mine I would be dissapointed.

if i got something back in the mail i would be very happy. I'll admit though, if it was smudged it would be disappointed. I have a weeks and bill hall autographed picture, the blue sharpie that weeks used was dying. It looks like crap, I was disappointed with that.

  • 2 weeks later...
I think Braun snubbed me or it got lost/stolen in the mail. Since I have yet to get my 8x10 back.

bummer...

maybe he has a stack to get through, and yours will come back in the off-season?

I got a Favre card back in the mail that I sent out at the beginning of the 2002-03 season, but I didn't get it back until June of 03...

You never know...

Yeah, that is too bad. Hopefully he'll get to it in the offseason and get it back to you. And me, too, for that matter as I have a photo out to him as well.

When I was eight years old (1979), I found the mailing addresses for the Kansas City Royals and Milwaukee Brewers. I wrote letters to Amos Otis and Jim Gantner and asked if they would sign the card I enclosed. Gumby's came back within a week, but no sign of the Otis card. Fast forward--a lot. I'm a junior and getting ready to go to my high school team's baseball game. I'm on crutches because I had hurt my knee the previous game in a home plate collision. Still a bit bummed out over the prospect of missing most of my season, I hobbled out to the mailbox and saw an envelope addressed to me by a kid. In the envelope was the Amos Otis card, signed. Nearly ten years after I had sent the card, it came back and brought me some joy.

Just curious, but will the Brewers continue to forward all of the mail from fans to players during the offseason? For example, if I send Braun/Prince something next week, will they actually get it sometime soon or would it just sit around until next season?

One other thing I need some help with, if you don't put the pictures in a top loader, how do you keep from it getting dinged? or should i just expect it to be dinged a bit when it comes back? Thanks for your help.
