your summer jams!

Bikeage77

Alright, so it's august, and by now you've heard a bunch of summer hits on various radio stations... what are your top 3 radio jams of the summer? Keep in mind that if I didn't work at a store that didn't play these on Kiss FM I'd prolly never here these cuz I'm a punk rock kid, but I can't get any of these outta my head!!!

mine are: (in order)

Sean Kingston: Beautiful Girls

Mickey Avalon: Jane Fonda

Pink: I'm Not Here For Your Entertainment

UGK-International Players' Anthem is what I consider my Song of Summer '07, although I'm not sure it's THE Song of Summer '07

I'm always fascinated by the concept of the "Song of the Summer"-- a song that gets played to death that gets inextricably connected to that particular summer. Last year I think it was definitely "Crazy" with "Steady As She Goes" running a decent second place.

I guess the White Stripes, but I don't really listen to the radio, I'd assume they are on it since the album was #1. They know how to pick lead singles off albums, and "Icky Thump" is just an awesome song.

In terms of jams that should be massive radio hits because they are amazingly catchy, I love the new Chromeo album "Fancy Footwork" - it's just like sweet '80's-style beats with clever/funny lyrics.

There's a couple downloads and a review here: http://pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/44203-fancy-footwork

Plus, Great White did the "Rockstar" thing way better many years ago with their song "Wasted Rock Ranger."

Well I'm a wasted rock ranger
I live the life of danger
On the road to find a higher high
I don't need no one's affection
All I need is my injection
An out of tune Les Paul'll get me by

I've been doin' gigs since I was ten
I really can't remember when
I ever had a dollar to my name
My ears are blown, my eyes are red
I got big holes inside my head
Snorting too much crystal and cocaine

I have bennies with the breakfast toast
Qualudes with the evening roast
Assorted snorts of powder in between
I don't think a day's gone by
That I wasn't drunk or high
It's the only way I keep my sanity

From Kegger's Den to Hooterville
My flaming tricks have topped the bill
A thousand empty bottles earn my name
Endless trains of one night stands
Sharing gigs with half-assed bands
And all the local groupies lay the same

Well I could have had a payin' job
Workin' for some ------up slob
Wife and family, true security
But I left that ---- behind
For that heavy metal grind
'Cause rock'n roll is in my blood to stay
(among other things)

Hey! You're a wasted rock ranger
You'll live life of danger
Sing this song and follow it till the end
When you reach number one
You can overdose for fun
And go and visit Jimi and his friends

Hey! You're a wasted rock ranger
You'll live a life of danger
Sing this song and follow it till the end
When we reach number one
Hey! We'll all overdose for fun
And we'll hang out with Jimi and his friends
Yee haw!

Dr. Hook was an originator of that kind of stuff...sounds like Great White lifted their rhyme scheme, too:

Well we're big rock singers, we've got golden fingers

And we're loved everywhere we go

We sing about beauty and we sing about truth

At ten thousand dollars a show

We take all kind of pills to give us all kind of thrills

But the thrill we've never known

Is the thrill that'll get you when you get your picture

On the cover of the Rolling Stone
