collecting bobbles is a crime at miller park

mattsr0625
im not sure if this is the right place to post this but i figured that the collectors will see it here. first off let me say that i was one of the people that was there for prince on friday and didnt get his auto. i was at the park by 3. im glad i wasted my time when others who had no clue that prince was signing jumped in line and were able to get his auto because the ushers dont know how to handle such large crowds. that pissed me off. then at todays game i was trying to get a cappy alternate with no problem. i got one for free from a couple. then i bought one for my brother. no big deal, when i happen to see some old guy looking at the boxes and walking back on line to get more bobbles from the mixed boxes. i saw him and his friend do this 6 times right behind home plate. well after the 3rd time i asked him how many retros he had, he replied "thats all i have." once i saw him do this i told some lady who i think was security working the home plate area what he was doing. she said she would handle it. well guess what, she didnt i saw him doing it again. i told another security/ usher person as he was doing it again. that time he saw me telling on him. the usher/security walked over to him and looked at him and walked away. a few minutes later i feel a tap on my shoulder and its security and the police, they want a word with me. they asked me how many bobbles i had and tickets. i said i am a season ticket holder with 2 tickets and i bought 2 bobbles from people. i was then told i would have my bobbles confiscated by the police and kicked out of the park for attempting to purchase bobbles on stadium grounds. thats their policy, she says. but when i asked to see that policy i was told i cant. she then says they have eyewitness reports that i was jumping back in line. i get very upset and begin to lose it. the cop tells me that if i dont get to my seat now and stay there for the remainder of the game i will be kicked out of the park. i tell the cop that they cant tell me where i can and cant go and if they are going to chose when they want to do their job then escort me out of the park. so i left, went home and watched it tv. this is a reminder that you cant get any extra bobbles at the game, its some made up policy. when did the ushers think they hold all the power in the world. also has anyone else had this problem at the park. personally i think the cop wanted my alternate bobbles.

I doubt that because if he wanted them, he would have confiscated them then and there. I have had no problems because I don't care what other people do with their bobbleheads, if I don't get one I need I just buy it from eBay. If someone wants to buy 85 tickets to get 85 bobbleheads let him spend his money on the tickets, I think it's funny and will most likely laugh at him, but so what. Yeah, I think the guy who reported you to security is a clown, but so be it, stand back and laugh at him. There no reason to get mad about it, just let him be, but since you reported him he needed to get back at you and he did.

Your right about the line jumpers for the Prince signning I would be mad if I was standing in line getting skipped. If someone beat me to the line fair and square no big deal. Look at some of these ushers they are a little more seasoned than most, so they are not going to have much power over a mass crowd.

i was then told i would have my bobbles confiscated by the police and kicked out of the park for attempting to purchase bobbles on stadium grounds.

That is illegal?

Yeah, show me where on my ticket it says I can't buy someone else's bobble? Point out one sign at the park thats says as much. Show me one scoreboard announcement reminding me that I can't offer an out of town Phillies fan $10 for their alternate bobble. This is just the latest example of the Event Services staff failing miserably at their job.

Not every rule is written on a ticket, or on a sign. They simply said that you can't buy them on MP property(which makes sense, as i have seen people doing this with large bags full of bobbles after and during games this year).

this is a reminder that you cant get any extra bobbles at the game, its some made up policy.

Yes, they made up this policy on the spot. Come on, it's most likely a new policy this year(or even since the ASB), in order to deal with the people getting way too many bobbles. Have you tried contacting the Brewers about it? I am sure if this is all a mix up and the ES people screwed up big time, they will more than comp you for what happened to you. Complaining on this forum won't get anything done. I strongly encourage you to call the Brewers PR, and talk to them.

(Somehow this became a triple post. I edited out the two duplicates. - hawing)

This probably deserves its own thread, but I think people who make their living off Ebay are a little shady. I'm not talking about people who earn a few extra bucks on Ebay. I'm talking about people who are unemployed, and their sole source of income is Ebay.

In my line of work, I came across a guy inside of a dumpster behind the local Staples office store. When customer service at Staples get returns, they don't shelve them. The returns get tossed in the trash. I kindly told the gentleman that "dumpster diving" on private property was illegal via City ordinance. The guy almost broke out into tears. He told me that he has been unemployed for a year, and since then has been making a living off Ebay selling stuff he sells on Ebay. This guy was probably 28-32 years old with no noticeable disability.

One of my former coworkers told me another story about her sister. Back in the early 80's, her sister was valedictorian of her class. She graduated from a smaller high school and then went to UW-Madison. Her sister lasted at UW for about 3 weeks. She quit because she was not "treated like a princess" and was shocked when she was 1 of 250 people in a lecture hall. With all that wasted potential, she and her husband now make their living selling stuff off Ebay.

I know other people like this too. Opinions?

My biggest problem with Comic Book Guy coming to MP on bobblehead day, especially now, is that they are using 70 -80 seats when clearly others would have used the tickets to, oh, I don't know, GO TO THE GAME! I get pretty annoyed seeing an announced crowd of 42k+ when the corners of the upper deck are basically empty.

I agree with the ebayer, it seems like a waste of a potentially productive human being. One can certainly contribute more to the world other than adding to the worlds biggest rummage sale.

wow. thats quite a generalization based on a small sample.

I would also say that anyone 28-32 yrs old thats dumpster diving prolly is suffering from a mental disability of some sort.

remember this is the USA...home of capitolism. where a person with an idea, as crazy or stupid as it sounds to you or i, has the oportunity to make as much or as little of themselves as they please.

There are some legitimate businesses that run good eBay accounts, and I don't see anything wrong with that. (I'm talking about the people with legitimate store fronts, running a real internet business dedicated to eBay, etc). However, there's quite a few people just attempting to make a living off eBay with no real plan, and it's pretty ridiculous.

I also don't get the thing about people collecting tons of bobbles to resell. Do these things really get that much money anymore? I mean, you're buying these tickets, spending all this time at the park to get these bobbles, etc. Is it really that profitable? Seems like that time could be better spent going out and advancing a real career.

I think the Ebay guy with 10+ bobbles is a completely legitimate topic, but I don't think it was in any way related to the original post.

BS. I've been to 24 games this year, I've been a season ticket holder for most of the last 13 years, I've been to every bobble head game for a last few years now and NEVER have I seen any enforcement of a "No Selling Bobblehead" policy. Heck, there were tons of people doing it yesterday right behind home plate. And IF this is a new policy, which I'm positive it's not, then they are certainly selective in their enforcement. IF you have this policy, apply it uniformly - not only sometimes.

I don't think he was complaining here to "get something done". I think he was venting. And seeing as how there has been much talk this year about the terrible customer service from the ES staff at Miller Park this year, not to mention the fact that most of our traders/collectors read this forum, I think the thread was perfectly fine.

And just a question, have you tried to deal with the ES staff this year? They are terrible. Obviously not all of them, but the fail rate is higher this year than ever before. Case in point, Sundays game. We were in section 117. Half way through the game someone from the lodge level dropped a bottle of water that landed in the lap of some kid, part of a family of four sitting a few rows ahead of us. The usher came over and looked up and shrugged it off. I'm not exactly sure what he really could have done, but ok. An inning later, another beverage comes down, this time landing on the ground in front of the family and splashing up. The usher? He was too busy talking to Corey Harts wife, he gave he family the "one second" finger wave, the "hold on" motion. A few minutes goes by and the family of four, sitting in $85 seats get up and walked out. As they walked by us, the mother said something to the usher, who was still in conversation with Mrs. Hart. The usher looked at her, rolled his eyes and went back to his conversation. Like I said, I'm not sure what he could have done, but at the very least, you try to convey some sympathy to the family who feels they need to leave the park, you don't brush them off because this is you first time working the players wives section and your awestruck.

There is nothing wrong or unlawful of getting extra bobbles. The ushers let and know that you do it, I normally get 2-3 extras and trade them for bobbles from other teams. I just traded a Prince and Capuano for a Mets Wright and Reyes, there is nothing shady or even illegal about that. No where does it state that you aren't allowed to go through the line more than once. I always take a bag and the ushers sometime ask how many I'm getting, or make some sort of comment, but they aren't being rude about it, and they have always let me do that, it isn't illegal? Matt, seriously I would go to the Brewers offices and explain your case, first off--you were treated wrongly and you are right, and you were trying to be the good guy. Second--what do you have to lose, you might get some more bobbles, or tickets, or autographs, explain that you weren't trying to make a profit, you were just collecting.

This is the most ridiculous story I've heard all year, it sucks that had to happen to you, I bought mine a pinstripe off of a cubs fan. Plus there is always that guy outside of Miller Park by home plate that yells give you $5 for your bobblehead and he walks away with 2 trash bag fulls everyday. Although, he wasn't there on Sunday, I wonder if that was a coincidence or not?

I would take this story to the Brewers though, no doubt.

hallfan - the $5 bobblehead guy was there outside the stadium around the 8th inning...also there was aguy directly outside the homeplate area yelling "$2 for your bobblehead" and there was a stack of about 8 at his feet...the $5 bobblehead guy runs over to him and says "Hey be careful of the employees". What a difference the people handing out the bobbles have made from the very first bobble until now

Man just get your bobblehead and be done with it. There are people out there that will ruin everything in life, you just gotta ignore it and let it slide...just keep it yourself, get your bobblehead and enjoy the game...don't worry if you don't get the retro one, just get it somewhere else...when it comes down to it you are collecting a worthless piece of ceramic, just enjoy yourself.

The justice is that any dude who buys 50 tickets to get 50 bobbleheads or sits outside paying $2 for bobbleheads of random people, has to be one of the biggest losers on the face of the planet.

I have no problem with the thread, however i just think it would be more productive to talk to PR about it. If if happened to me, i would. That kind of thing shouldn't happen to paying fans.

And just a question, have you tried to deal with the ES staff this year? They are terrible. Obviously not all of them, but the fail rate is higher this year than ever before.

Outside of the "pitbosses" not this year no. Having worked as an Usher for several years(quit before this season started), i know first hand which ones can control the situations, and which ones can't. So i feel your pain. Many times i have had to move from my section, 3 sections over because someone couldn't handle the situation occuring. My best bet for you(and anybody having a problem), walk up to an usher, and ask for thier boss. There are 2 per level(one on each baseline, you can spot em because they are the ones with the walkie-talkies) and there is one at the Hot Corner and usually 2 behind homeplate. They get things done, no questions asked.

The usher? He was too busy talking to Corey Harts wife, he gave he family the "one second" finger wave, the "hold on" motion. Report him. You ever see anything like that, go to the bosses and report em. That kind of stuff shouldn't be tolerated. What he should have done was call up to that level, talk to the usher in that area, and let him know what is happening. Not a whole lot you can do in that situation, other than prevent it from happening again.

it started off great. he called me back and we were having a decent conversation. until he asked me what my season ticket status was. i told him a 20 game season ticket holder. he replied than you are not really a season ticket holder but a partial ticket holder. as if that was important. thats when he became very interested in where my seats were. i told him terrace level and then he said well im glad i answered your questions, if you have any more just call. thanks for the help.
