I really HATE DishNetwork

saget

Some may know of my frustrations with DishNetwork when I used to complain about it in the in-game chats.

DishNetwork has provided me with nothing but hate for the company and terrible service. Since we've signed up for their crappy program we constantly get errors on the TV screen claiming that the dish is out of alignment or there is bad weather. I went a week straight looking at the error screen on my TV until they finally came and "fixed" it. It was fine for about a week, then every single day right as it started to get dark outside we would get the same old errors on our TV.

The lady on the phone said we had faulty equipment and that we'd need it replaced. Luckily they didn't charge to replace shoddy equipment. So about another week passes and they finally replace both the satellite and the reciever. That was about 2 weeks ago or so. Now I am getting the SAME ERROR MESSAGES AGAIN!!! I am so sick of DishNetwork. There is absolutely nothing blocking the signal and there is no bad weather(two common occurrences they say..).

Every time a couple of clouds form in the sky or it gets dark outside I can't watch TV? And to make matters worse, we don't get FSN. Every single person I talk to that has DishNetwork has FSN. Even the people with the most basic packages. It really makes me want to pound my desk in rage. Hell, I think I will do that. WHACK!

I want cable back.

I've had cable, DishNet, & Directv (including Dish & DTV at the same time for a while) and Directv wins hands down. Better equipment, better quality and, though it has slipped some in recent years, they still have superior customer service to cable.

Sorry, but I have had Dish for almost two years and have been very happy with it. We have had a few outages when it rains, but you would get that with DirectTV, too.

However... we are looking to get into the HDTV arena and I don't know if Dish or DirectTV is going to win out on this one. Cable is certainly NOT an option.

There is no cable available in my neighborhood; we have DISH mostly because it is part of the package offered by the local phone company. I haven't been thrilled with the service either (I've had problems with the DVR that took months to clear up, for one thing).

I see Time Warner trucks driving through the area on occasion.. I keep praying that they'll lay some cables down our street. The dial-up internet connection is far more annoying than the TV service could ever be (no DSL available in our area either... we are too far from the tower).

To steer away from the politics, I also am a very happy DirecTV subscriber.

It's amazing in 2007 that people still have to deal with problems like this, isn't it? I blame the government partly for not doing enough to increase competition.
I don't think its a competition issue when it comes to actually putting in equipment. I think whoever owns the lines has to find the motivation to expand its network. After that, competition can kick in.

That's for sure. DSL extends to points two miles to the east of me and two miles to the west of me. The service to the west is very encouraging, though. It's only been there a month, meaning I can't accuse anyone of dragging their feet, and it extends 15-16 miles from town. I'd have to think the phone company would want to fill that gap.

The more frustrating thing is that nobody in the local office has access to information about the company's future plans. They'll get a work order to install a box to extend the network with just a few days notice.

As far as DirecTV vs. DISH, DirecTV is better for sports. I've looked at DISH's plans and I've seen some niche stuff that I might like and could be very appealing to some people; I can't recall what that stuff is offhand, though.

=============

EDIT: I changed "I don't think its a competition issue when it comes to actually putting in lines." to "actually putting in equipment." Lines are generally in place. It's the boxes that boost the DSL signal that have to be added every three miles or so.

I don't know if anybody is a soccer / rugby / Australian Rules Football buff or not. I found out that Dish now has the Setanta network as part of the 200 package. I thnk it is $15/month with DirectTV.

However for American Sports, DirectTV is better... if you want to pay for the packages.

Unfortunately, I think this is a free preview until September. After that, it will be $15/month with Dish as well.

Dish Network is the best for HDTV content right now. Direct TV was supposed to have a boatload more HD Channels made available this year but haven't delivered yet. Also, if you're in the Milwaukee area, they won't send you an HD feed for CBS because of some contract issue with the local affiliate. You'll have to get an OTA antenna for this. It sucks. Big time.

Cable is decent but the quality is lacking a bit. But the fact you can get an HD DVR for like $6.00/month is a steal!

Personally, I had Direct TV and liked it but I'm going back to Cable.

I have a question, I have cable right now and I am looking into getting Dish Network b/c of the extremely low price that kills cable. My question is it says that FSN North is my regional FSN network (I live in Oshkosh) and from watching Brewer games I know they always say FSN Wisconsin. Is there any difference? I remember when it used to be FSN North for Brewer games and I just want to make sure that I get the games.

Thanks in advance,

tdeggie

Both satellite services run FSN-WI part time. You'll get FSN-N (the Minnesota version) full time. FSN-WI will be turned on for live games, and once in a while, it'll be turned on for something else if you're lucky.

DirecTV reserves a channel for FSN-WI; on DISH, FSN-WI programming jumps around between various channel numbers.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.
