Looking for So-and-so.

This is my formal complaint regarding these posts that say "Looking for MHgb" and similar posts. Doesn't it make sense to PM them? Or perhaps wait until their done living their lives outside of BF.net (God forbid someone goes on vacation for a week and you can't get a hold of them or simply takes a short hiatus from the site.)

Ok that's all. Diving back in now.

Those posts don't seem to be characteristic of this board. Do you have an example?

I wouldn't want to see them often, either. Once in a blue moon, there may be a legitimate reason for a thread like that.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I got it. There are actually two of those threads.

Maybe someone should whip up a designated thread for this purpose until everyone gets used to Yuku. bhf expressed his concern about staying in touch yesterday here in Issues.

I think that this is a direct result of the change over. On the old system, when we got a new message we saw an alert on the top of the screen telling us to check our inbox. Not so anymore. I know that's why BHF made the "looking for 20fry" post. He sent me an inbox message, I didn't see it.

Once everyone gets used to the new board I'm sure those posts will go away. I don't remember many of those kinds of posts before.

This was definitely a direct result of the changeover. The threads were posted by veteran members who'd normally do something else.

Yuku's new message notification isn't very clear. It relies on changing the color of the Navigation button at the top right corner of any forum page. That's not very intuitive, and does no good at all for internet users who can't view colors. A Yuku staff member is working on a better alternative, but no rollout timetable seems to be set.

Here's what to look for. If there are no new messages, the button remains gray:

If there are new messages, the button turns bright pale blue:

Yuku's Firefox extension is a big help for managing messages. It places an icon and new message indicator in the browser's status bar. If a member has new messages, the "light" will blink. What's really wonderful is that this works even if a member isn't visiting a Yuku page.

Here are pictures of the Yuku extension menu and its Messages submenu. Note that you can log in/out without visiting a Yuku page.
