8/4/05 Brewers (Davis) vs. Mets (Benson) 11:10 AM CST

Where's that thread about Santana being overworked again? That seems relevant here... I loathed the guy in spring training, was shocked when he made the team, and he actually converted me wiith some 95 mph and he was reasonably effective...

The bottom seems to have fallen out, he needs some time in AAA to get back on his feet. I wouldn't say he should be pumping gas in Latin America (sheesh) but he needs to do something besides being Yost's go-to 7th/8th inning guy for a while.

I place the blame at the feet of Lyle Overbay today

Ummm...Doug Davis walked SEVEN batters, and gave up 6 runs. That is where the game was lost!

Lyle Overbay? Ned Yost? Please! When your SP can't get out of the 4th, you probably are not going to win.

You guys say Trent bunting was the "wrong move" like it is a fact. Lets say Trent gets a hit. Scores one possibly, but with Lee run maybe not. That means Helms needs to get a hit anyway to score 2 runs. Then of course Moeller.

With the bottom of the order up I think the bunt and letting him swing away were a horse a piece.

For those who wanted to see Branyan bat.

In 19 AB's v. Lefties

1 hit, 1 walk, and 12 K's

The reason the Brewers are not above .500 yet is because of the lack of pitching obvouisly, but everyone still wants to acquire bats this offseason and stick with what they currently have in the system.

They need another SP, a Loogie, and one more solid bullpen guy for next year.

What did ned do correctly? Nothing.

1st and 2nd with no outs and he pulls his highest OPS player in Branyan in order to bring in Durro to bunt? Why do that? It makes no sense. Your choices are either...

A-Let RB swing away

B-Make RB bunt. The game might go 14 innings. Why lose RB for the remainder?

On the road you play for the WIN. That means you dont give up outs in an effort to TIE the game. That is the most basic strategy in Baseball. Ned played for the tie, which is the wrong move. He lost RB for the rest of the game. He allowed Moeller to hit in the clutch. What else could go wrong with that? Not much.

A- RB striking out would not help out at all, which is why having him and his high strikeout rate bat would more likely hurt than help.

B- RB bunt? Are you kidding me? The guy is totally inept at doing so.

When you are down two runs you play to tie in my opinion, down one you play for the win. Three runs is a lot of runs to score in one inning, especially with the bottom of the order up.

Ned made a solid move. I nominate you for Whiner of the game.

When the Brewers have scored 7 runs and can't win a game, my thoughts immediately turn to the pitching staff.

I can forgive you for jumping to that obvious conclusion.

However, if I pointed out the manager did 'what scoop said re branyan/duro'

And our best two relievers never got in a close game

And our starter had something physically wrong with him, but was left in to die

....your thoughts may turn to a different place
