8/4/05 Brewers (Davis) vs. Mets (Benson) 11:10 AM CST

I for one was ******** before durro bunted. Its the WRONG MOVE. It was a waste. Ned blew it and that was apparent BEFORE the inning unfolded. He screwed up.

It was absolutely the right move. 2nd and 3rd with only 1 out. A base hit generally scores both runners.

Play for the big inning and quite possibly no runs would have scored (depending on what the hitter in Durro's spot would have done).

if you tie the game, they have six outs, you have three, it does not make sense ned... it does not make sense

When you take a look at the suckfest that the Mets bullpen is, it makes perfect sense.

How much can I disagree. If we get the lead we have wise to come in... instead we get our ....fest - santana

It was the RIGHT move. With the top of the order coming up in the ninth, you play for a tie in the 8th and win it against their crappy bullpen in the ninth. I read your post about not liking it. So let's imagine they left Branyan in and he strikes out like normal. Then we score NONE.

I remember a few months ago, Julio Santana was on the top of the world and everyone wanted to trade him for something of value. We should have then. How the mighty have fallen! King Julio! King Julio!

Wow, you know your career is in the toilet when Jose Offerman is driving in runs off of you.

Julio Santana shouldn't even be in AAA....he should be pumping someone's gas somewhere in Latin America. He's the type of player that gets coaches fired. He's on the roster and so they feel compelled to throw him out there no matter how many games he blows. They're almost asking to lose when they throw this guy out there. I can't stand watching him pitch...thank God this game is not televised.

Santana has been one of our most solid relievers all season, and now that he has gone into a little bit of a slump you want to kick him off the team. Give me a break!

All these knee jerk reactions going around lately are driving me crazy.

What did ned do correctly? Nothing.

1st and 2nd with no outs and he pulls his highest OPS player in Branyan in order to bring in Durro to bunt? Why do that? It makes no sense. Your choices are either...

A-Let RB swing away

B-Make RB bunt. The game might go 14 innings. Why lose RB for the remainder?

On the road you play for the WIN. That means you dont give up outs in an effort to TIE the game. That is the most basic strategy in Baseball. Ned played for the tie, which is the wrong move. He lost RB for the rest of the game. He allowed Moeller to hit in the clutch. What else could go wrong with that? Not much.

Interesting to hear everyone's thoughts on what has gone wrong and why, but I place the blame at the feet of Lyle Overbay today... He is our #3 hitter... Brady and Rickie have reached base 7 of 10 times... Lee and Jenkins are mashing... Lyle has gone 1 for 5... That gap he fills between Weeks and Lee has been a sore spot today... This is one reason why we have so many hits and not enough runs to show for it...

With that being said, I am looking for a BIG hit from Lyle in the 9th...

Assume the bunt strategy "works". The Mets now have two at bats to our one with the game tied. The Mets bullpen is about matched by the Brewers'. Witness the Mets 8th. You have to play for the win there. Sorry.

In your odd little baseball worls, if someone other than Ned was managing the Brewers, they would be up there challenging the Cardinals.

oh, you caught me out, what I wrote was an anagram for exactly that

I am talking about today's game; ned had brain meltdown... sad really

When the Brewers have scored 7 runs and can't win a game, my thoughts immediately turn to the pitching staff.
