Saving a pitcher for a hypothetical is like not pintch hitting for your catcher because your back up may get injured. You know what the current situation is. If you fail now, it won't matter what happens in three innings.

Exactly how many managers in MLB would be following this idea? When was the last time you saw Smoltz, Rivera, Hoffman, Nen or Gagne pitching in the 5th inning? That's what I thought....

Once again, this seems to be a case of people criticizing Yost for not making a move that EVERY OTHER MAJOR LEAGUE MANAGER WOULDN'T HAVE MADE.

I'm not asking Yost to bring in his closer. But he should be able to do more with Vizcaino or Brooks. Or is that too earth shattering?

I keep hearing that Kolb is unavailable.... thus making Vizcaino his closer. If I'm missing something, I appologize.

I guess I'm not so much criticizing Yost, as I am Tony LaRussa and every other manager in the game. IMO, holds should be considered to be just as important as saves.

edit: of course, if we had more than 4 decent relievers, this wouldn't be as much of a big deal.

The problem isn't so much only 4 good relievers since most teams don't have many more than that. Its more that starters are so bad that each one leaves 3 to 4 innings needing to be covered each night . Add to that having to have two of your starters only expected to go up to 5 and need long back up and Melvin may have found a team that really could use a 13 member staff.

Just to clarify, Kolb is unavailable until Tuesday at the earliest according to the WSJ and Jim Powell.

Brooks is unavailable due to a heavy workload lately.

Hernandez obviously started the game

Santos pitches tomorrow.

That leaves Kinney, Burba, Bennett, and Ford as the options there.

I dont care what anyone says...the closer doesn't pitch in the 5th inning, nor should he---ever!! Vizcaiano is that closer today.

Danny Kolb is up in the bullpen.

That means that I should learn not to read the WSJ when looking for Brewers information. However, Jim Powell is usually pretty reliable and he said Kolb wouldnt be available too.

Anyways, I stand corrected.

Two runs after 2 2/3, coming in with the bases loaded and 1 out. I'll take that, even if it's not the best.

BEERMAKERS WIN !!

Matt Kinney saved the game for us today. It was ugly out there today, but I'll take it.

Special thanks to the New York wind in leftfield !!

I dont agree.

That was a very hard throw to handle. Hopped way to close to Bennett. On line but in a very tough spot. I cant fault the catcher there.

Clark has made a number of very poor throws this year, usually off the line, no where close.
