Edit: Is anyone else reminded of a bad guy from some anime when they hear the Dodgers' PA guy?

LOL... yeah... that's great. It sounds like he's talking with his mouthful, underwater. Weird.

Amazing performance by Doug Davis tonight. The Brewers have been getting a lot of clutch starts by guys like Davis, Chris Saenz, Matt Wise, and Johnny Wholestaff. It's nice to have some depth so that we don't have to throw some scrub like Ruben Quevedo out there.

I was really happy that Podsednik had a huge game. We really needed that.

Nice win. !!

Looking forward to seeing Ben Hendrickson tomorrow.

Understatement of the year. You gotta modify that "Bennett!!!" headline, Toby... just "Ben!!!" will do nicely. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I'm bummed i'll probably miss the game tommorrow, horrible timing with Ben's debut.Glad i live in a ime where TV can be taped.

As for tonight, great pitching job, albiet against a really sad lineup.Being a Dodger fan must be painfull, watching that lineup 162 games is nothing more than a sleeping aide.Davis though still got the out, what a blessing he's been.

It was not a great pitching job. Davis threw 92 pitches, but only 53 for strikes. If the Dodgers were more patient things could have gone differently. Not to take too much from Davis who was going on short rest, but he wasn't really sharp.

I just got back from the game in LA I was hopeing to see Ben pitch and welcome him to the show but I did not see him in the bull pen. It was good to see the Brewers in person and play well was a bonus . I was a lonley person in LA rooting for the brewers not to many fans out here. Anyway saw TOm Hanks and Robert Wohl (arlis) there so that was a bonus.

I will try to get out there tomorrow if ben is going to pitch .

We did see Tom Hanks on TV. Jennifer Love Hewitt was also there too. Nice to see some movie stars taking in a Brewers victory. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif

I especially want to see Scott Podsednik get going.

Jeff Weaver's pitches have a lot of movement. The Brewers should just let themselves get hit on those funky inside pitches. We could have had two more baserunners already.

First off, kudos to AJAY for some accurate hopes/predictions on the game.

I had the pleasure of listening to this game via radio while at work... man do I love these 9:05 starts, as I can listen to the whole game and it makes the end of the shift go really fast. Now a few comments:

Terry Crafts decision making in this game was shockingly odd. So in Crafts' mind, Davis intentionally hit Shawn Green in the 3rd, with runners already on 1st and 2nd, to load the bases for Adrian Beltre and thus prompts both benches to be warned, but with 2 out and no one one, Weaver obviously WASN'T throwing at the guy who had reached base 3 times previously and had hit a leadoff homerun to account for the only run in the game thus far.... so obviously that wasn't retalliation and didn't warrant ejection after the benches were warned.... like Jim Powell said, now Crafts is apparently reading the players' minds.

I missed the Bradley ordeal as it happened, but returned to the radio to hear Uecker say something to the effect of 'after that display, I wouldn't be surprized if his team had him miss a few more games.' I have yet to see video of it, so does anyone have any idea what he said to Crafts to get ejected (or what it was that he was upset about in the first place)? I'd think that if Brian has video of this, it might be deserving of any Alcantara-like posting on the media part of the site at some point...

And for the record, Jim and Bob were confused a bit by the double switch as well, so it wasn't just a TV thing...

Umpire Terry Craft

On the ejection

"He was arguing a pitch I called against him earlier and he had argued a pitch on another batter from the dugout," said Craft. "When he came to the plate, I told him he had better think twice before yelling at me from the dugout. Then he went off on me and I ejected him."

On Trying to discuss Bradley's bench-jockeying

"I said, 'I want to talk to you.' " said West. "He waved me off."

On the Dodgers request to have the bat, helmet and gloves of Bradley returned

"He left it for us, so I took it," said West. "I'll call the office (of Major League Baseball) and see if they want it. If they don't, I'll return it. He attempted to embarrass the umpires."

On Jim Tracy's arguement

"Left field was covered with trash and he tried to blame me for that," West said of Tracy's animated argument. "He said, 'You started it.' I don't blame Jim for taking up for his player. You can't blame us for doing our job."

Dodger's Manager Jim Tracy

On Bradley being provoked

"A few things that took place I don't agree with," said Tracy. "I feel strongly the player was provoked. I don't appreciate it. Everyone is told Milton has a tendency to lose his temper. I don't know anyone who wouldn't lose it when provoked."

On the possibility of Bradley being suspended

"We'll all have our say," said Tracy.

Bradley's replacement Dave Roberts

On Milton Bradley

"Milton's a high-energy type guy with a short fuse, and he gets frustrated," said Dave Roberts, who replaced Bradley in center field. "He's going to be provoked in certain situations, but the bottom line is that he's got to understand that we need him on the field. Sometimes you've got to take the high road."

Geoff Jenkins

On Bradley's thrown ball sailing over his head

"I never saw it," said Brewers left fielder Geoff Jenkins. "If he would have hit me, I would have snapped."

Scott Podsednik

"It was a fiasco," said Brewers center fielder Scott Podsednik. "I've never been a part of something like that."

Doug Davis

"I played with him when he punched an umpire in the face, so it didn't surprise me," said Davis. "He got kicked out of the league."

Since I was probably in the minority when it came to not wanting to trade for Milton Bradley, I am hard-pressed to defend him. However, IMHO, an umpire should walk toward the dugout at the time of the bench jockeying to diffuse the situation, rather than waiting for the the guy to come to the plate. Granted, that didn't warrant the reaction. However, overall, I would grade Terry Craft's performance rather low. He was squeezing Davis and Weaver all night. Someone mentioned Doug throwing for a low percentage of strikes. With the strike zone Craft allowed, it was difficult to do much better.

Craft clearly shares some of the blame here. His provocation does not excuse Bradley's behavior but it certainly does help explain it. I have no problem with the umpires yelling back at the players and managers when conflicts arise, but an umpire should not provoke by starting a conversation with a player, and an umpire should NOT ever chase after a player to keep an argument going. I remember when the Brewers were in the AL and Rich Garcia would actually follow the players and managers after arguments. Garcia would often times go to the dugout looking to stoke the fires. That is just wrong. Bradley is an idiot but when provoked I think we can all predict the outcome. I think Craft wanted to toss Bradley for embarrassing him earlier in the game.

Assuming Geoff didn't get hurt, this would have been really fun to see.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Terry Crafts decision making in this game was shockingly odd. I might be the only one who has this opinion, and it's definately hingsight.

When the warning was issued I was upset by it. However, I think the warning was issued because both teams had hit a batter, not because Craft was reading intent into them. The warning was "Ok, both teams have hit batters, and I don't think it was intentional, but if anyone wants to retaliate down the road you're gone." (one could read that as "If you're gonna hit someone, it better not look like you were trying to, even if you were.")

When Weaver hit Podsednik, wasn't it a breaking ball? When he got hit I remember thinking "Weaver's gonna get tossed for pitching inside", and being surprised when he wasn't.

Again, much of my thinking is based upon how things turned out rather than what Craft may have thought.

As for Craft provoking our old friend Milton (who I wanted in Milwaukee since his days in Montreal), who knows? Craft may have wanted to let him know that he tollerated one outburst, but that any addtional displays like that would get him tossed. It does sound like he wanted to talk to him between innings, and if that is the case, it doesn't fit the "trying to show up Milton" thing.
