06/04/2004 - Brewers (Santos) at Padres (Tankersley)

This is the beginning of the toughest 6-game stretch of the year - until, well, the following series against Houston, but getting a win under the belt, and staying above that .500 mark is vital. The longer they stay above .500 while at the same time getting the most difficult part of the schedule out of the way, the better chance they will have to be in contention for a winning record in August and September.

Staying above that .500 mark is extremely important. In the post-1992 era, it seems like the Brewers have had stretches of being above .500, but as soon as they drop a game under, the floodgates open and suddenly they're 10 games under. Hopefully those days are coming to an end.

No man crush on Mike Adams here. He is at his very ugliest right now. Mike, please get rid of the facial hair. You look much better without it. But, he sure is getting the job done. I don't know if the 7 flyouts were by design(considering PetCo's dimensions) or not. That isn't necessarily a good MO at MP.

I told my wife last night as I was watching the latter part of the game seven hours before having to come into work this morning how nice it is to feel compelled to actually watch the end of a late night West Coast Brewer game. Can't honestly remember the last time I felt that way. I saw the end of one LA game this week, as well. Now, could we just get Bill Hall in the game to take advantage of those spacious gaps in SD.

Good, consistent pitching is what stop those kinds of things from happening. With Sheets and Davis excelling and the rest of the starters at least keeping the team in games and with the bullpen improvement, there's a fighting chance that that kind of thing won't happen this year.
