06/05/2004 - Brewers (Obermueller) at Padres (Valdez)

MassBrew

Wes Obermueller's last West Coast outing was very successful in San Francisco earlier this season, and the Brewers are now seeing the eminently hittable Ismael Valdez for the second time in a week, and won't be shut down twice.

Be sure to tune in to Jim Powell's pre-game interview with Baseball America's Jim Callis as they discuss this week's amateur player draft. (And actually, the interview is archived and we'll link you to that later tonight as well...)

Someone needs to inform Nedley that Gary Bennett SUCKS and Chad Moeller is, in fact, available to play catcher.

I'm sure this little duck snort base hit will justify another 10 or 15 utterly useless plate appearances for good old "Benny."

Wes Obermueller is a better hitter than Gary Bennett, and that isn't an exaggeration.

Anybody else getting a kick out of Mike Everitt's strike call? It's like an old, fat, white guy doing a karate chop and grunting. How cool is that?

not sure it sounds like that, but I like it. What I like is he immediately makes a noise and a hand gesture. I hate it when they leave you hanging for a second.

Get yer arses on the live chat.

I'm disabled... I have a disease called Macintosh that precludes me from joining the other kids in the chat room. Pity me.

"At least it's not an HP"

Yeah, no kidding. That's what I'm on now, and I can't share my true feelings about its performance, or I'd be banned from Brewerfan for language violations.

Dude, I'm gettin' a Dell.

To stay on topic, I REALLY would like to see some runs tonight. From the Brewers.

This is embarrassing..we are being shut out by Ismael Valdez..his stuff isn't that good but our approach at the plate is worse. We don't seem to have a clue. Does Podsednik ever hit a GB or even a ball to LF anymore? Ben Grieve is starting to show his true colors. Best thing for him to do is not swing, at least then he has a chance to get on.

Ben Grieve over the last seven days (6 games):

.333 AVG, .429 OBA, .611 SLG, 1.040 OPS

If those are his true colors, why are you complaining?

The pissed off Matt Kinney is way better than the happy Matt Kinney. I have no idea what triggered the change of attitude on the mound, but I like it.

Now, if only we could... ahem... score?

You know, I've been watching this whole game and I just now realized that we're facing Ismael Valdes, NOT Tim Hudson.

Was anyone else aware of this? I must have missed it somehow... I mean, he's only been out there for a few seconds at a time and he's only thrown about 80 pitches. The Padres really slipped that one by me.

Wow, Bennet was on fire tonight and should be the player of the game! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif That should be good enough to keep him on the team and starting semi-regularly for the rest of the season.

Well it looks like all those timely hits the Brewers were getting the first 2 months of the season are now equaling out.

I'm much too tired to lok it up, but when was the last time the Brewers:

-- scored five or more runs?

-- had a multi-HR game?

-- hit a three-run HR?

-- entertained us offensively?

And yet they have Davis and Sheets going in the next two games, so hope looms -- gotta score, though.

I suppose I shouldn't be so hard on Grieve, after all he is our second leading hitter...at .257....Yikes. In his last 4 games(see I can select a sample to prove my point too) he is 1 for 10. That is what I meant by STARTING to show his true colors. Maybe he should lead off because he does walk alot. In the end, his slow bat and lousy defense will convince you that he is NOT an everyday player.
