6/10/2004 - Brewers (Obermueller) @ Angels (Sele)

The Brewers go for the sweep in this third and final game of their interleague series with the Anaheim Angels. Wes Obermueller (3-2, 6.80) takes the hill for the Crew and will continue to try and prove he deserves to hold onto a rotation spot. With a collective team ERA now below 4.00, Obermueller is the exception to the rule with the Brewers, and he might be in the bullpen quicker than you'd think. He hooks up with Angels starter and Minnesota native Aaron Sele (4-0, 3.26), who is off to a fine start after a hellish 2003 season.

If the Brewers climb back to 3 games above .500 with a win this evening, it'll be the first time they will have been 3 games over this late in the season since June 25th, 2001. They are 3.5 games behind first-place Cincinnati, and head home to Milwaukee after the game to begin a 14 day, 12 game, 4 team homestand at Miller Park.

Game time is at 10:00 p.m. CST. I'm not even going to bother linking to another site's preview because it won't be as cool as getting to read the Daily Brew.

(I'm being picky...it's daylight time. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif)

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

MLB.com:

Ben Grieve loves facing Sele. Grieve is 12-for-29 in his career against the right-hander with two doubles and four RBIs. No other Brewer has faced Sele in more than seven at-bats.

So where's Ben?

Throughout his career Sele has always been stingy vs. righties, and AWFUL vs. lefties, I guess due to that sweeping curveball of his. Grieve should be playing.

That said, small sample size alert, Sele is better vs. lefties this year (.250/.322/.350 vs. L as opposed to .306/.367/.388 vs. R).

Not a lot of experience on either side tonight.

Angels vs. Obermueller:

Raul Mondesi - 1-for-3, 2 BB, .933 OPS

Oh, too bad... Raul can't play anymore. I'm crushed http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif .

Brewers vs. Sele:

Ben Grieve - 12-for-29, 2 2B, 6 BB, .997 OPS

Jeff Liefer - 1-for-6, HR, 3 K, .833 OPS

Scott Podsednik - 0-for-1, BB, .500 OPS

Craig Counsell - 0-for-4, K, .000 OPS

EDIT: And yes, Chone Figgins was safe. No opinion needed... that was pretty clear. We'll take it, I guess.

I agree RyDogg. What's interesting is how much umps call people out when the tag actually gets people near the knee or higher.

True dat. The other thing that bothers me is the "neighborhood" call on double-plays. If a guy's foot isn't on the bag, it's not an out... and no "it's close enough" explanation will ever cut it for me.

Although I haven't seen that much this year so far. Maybe it's cause Vina's been hurt

So it turns out we did pursue Jose Guillen in the off-season, and he was flattered and interested in playing for Nedley. At least, that's what Daron Sutton says.

Oh, what could have been.

Wow, I just got a flashback of Eddie Perez digging around third and trying to score.

Nicely done, Benny... and nice hit, Spivey. Nice to have an early lead.

And Bill Schroeder is right... Garret Anderson did not look good on that "throw". I'm going to go with "he's not ready yet, skip" for 500, please.

Anybody else notice that for that blast, Geoff went back to his old Huge Full Wind-up Stride, whereas for the rest of the at-bat he was using the Quieter Toe-Tap he'd switched to recently?
