06/18/2004 - Brewers (Sheets) vs. Twins (Silva)

Ben isn't Ben tonight. I'm sure the miniscule strike zone has something to do with it, but the Twins are doing a good job of laying off the curveballs. Hopefully Big Ben can figure out what's up and make the adjustments.

Considering how bad Helms was BEFORE the injury, and how it takes a player awhile to get back what they HAD before an injury, it's scary how bad Helms could be for the first 2-3 weeks. Although to be fair, that 5 hole has looked pretty bad for awhile http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Ben is probably done... 102 pitches, 66 strikes, 4 hits, 2 walks, 6 Ks. He's due up third, so I can't really see him hitting for himself and going back out for the seventh. Good outing - he did what he needed to do with regard to the small zone and really heated up the last few innings. Nice work, Big Ben!

EDIT: Yep.

This is one of the things that Nedley does really well. If Dusty Baker was our manager, he'd have sent Ben back out to "finish what he started" and "learn how to be tough." It would have been easy for Nedley to say "Ben's pitching good, why don't we try one more inning?" But he didn't. And that's cool. Nice job, Ned.

And Ben Grieve with a nice base hit as a pinch-hitter.

Jeff Bennett time, folks, and sans goatee (or so I hear). Hide the children. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

I hope are managment are putting two and two together. Great D can win you ball games PLUS it is cheap. It is lot cheaper than 40 home run guys who are defensive liabilities.

My dream is for future Crew teams to concentrate on pitching and defense... and let the batting work itself out.

Just so you're all aware, the Twins TV morons have called Keith Ginter "Matt" for the whole game. Apparently, the producer/director in the truck think it's funny, as they haven't made the correction yet.

This isn't anything new. Last year, they referred to EY as "Ernie Young" until the final game of the season series.

If you ask me, it's pretty embarrassing when you so blatantly screw up someone's name as it appears on the TV screen. But who am I? I only work in TV. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/pimp.gif

Matt Ginter is a pitcher for the Mets, so at least he exists. Keith's middle name isn't even Matt, though, it's Michael... that's an entirely inexcusable error by the TV folks.

And Bennett looks like he's 12 without the chin strap. Wow.

Sounds like Daron and Bill should man up, go next door and take care of business.

batman--

Exactly. And while I could probably let it go under normal circumstances, these jacks pulled it last year with EY.

I'm just so sick of how unprofessional they are. They're too busy talking about Blyleven's HOF chances, and Blyleven is too busy stealing Madden's "circle stupid-looking people in the stands" schtick, to actually call the game.

I was so happy when the Twins started Victory Sports and it wasn't on TV anywhere, and then FSN decided to expand their Brewers coverage into eastern Minnesota (I live near Duluth). Too bad that had to blow up last month. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif

I'm sure most of you know this, but Joe Roa used to be a Brewer (for a few months at the beginning of last season). His MLB career is quite a story. After being drafted in the 18th round of the 1989 draft, he's played for the following organizations:

- Atlanta

- New York Mets

- Cleveland

- San Francisco

- Cleveland (again)

- Florida

- Philadelphia

- Milwaukee

- Philadelphia (again)

- San Diego

- Colorado

- Minnesota

In all, he's played for 24 different Major or Minor League teams.

The best part? He's only 32.

Here's an AP story:

Just chiming in on this one, no TV in front of the computer... I haven't seen the Brewers in a few weeks, but they seem to be the same club that just can't get an extra base when they need it. Also, J. Bennett looks A LOT better then when I saw him last. Fastball has a lot of life on it tonight.

GO BREWERS!
