AJAY

I've said it before... they have to put the opponents AWAY for that third game of the series.

If they're going to be in the post-season... this is something that the club has to learn today. Game six of the NLCS against the Scrubs is not the time to learn that.

Considering that Johan Santana is a hard throwing lefty, I really didn't expect much today. A win would have been nice, but I never thought it was a sure thing.

The losses to Houston and Seattle were more troubling because I felt like those games were much more winnable. I did not get that feeling today.

But I do agree, some sweeps would be nice for a change. We really need to find a right handed bat with power.

Settle down. To even suggest that the Crew is going to be in the NLCS this year is foolish.

The Crew got beat by a great start from Santana, I don't think the Twins were "on the ropes" at any time today, although a few hits with RISP would have been nice.

We won another series, why complain?

Nedley needed to keep one of those LH bench players for the ninth inning...knowing they have a RH closer and they were not likely to hit Santana...could have used Obermueller early instead of Grieve or Liefer. Another chance to sweep but another fun series for the crew. I love ya Billy Hall but you need to cut down that stroke with 2 strikes...2 of 3 from the twinks...go crew.

It hurts to keep losing the 3rd game, but on the other hand, if we win 2 out of every 3 games the rest of the way, we will unequivocally be World Series winners. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

I was at the game today. There's not more that needs to be said other than Santana was in control all game and Victor Santos was poor. I give Yost credit for pulling the trigger on bringing in the bullpen early as that, along with Counsell's big hit, kept the Brewers in the game until the end.

I, too, was at the game and like Robert said, Johan was the man today. He was consistently hitting 94 with his fastball and then coming back with an 80 mph slider that was just wicked. I wouldn't have wanted to hit off of him today, no doubt about that. Wow. That was the Johan Santana of old, not the crappy one that's been on-and-off this year.

Tough loss again, but 2 out of 3 from the Twins feels mighty good.

That's the way I feel. If we keep taking two games out of three from teams that are as good or better than us talent-wise, I'm pretty happy.

What the hell are you talking about, clancy?

Baseball isn't a boxing match. You don't have teams "on the ropes" by beating them two straight days. Each day is a brand new day, because you are facing a different pitcher. It's not like other sports where the same lineup is out there every night.

The Brewers don't get bonus points for sweeping a series, which makes your statement completely silly.

While they haven't swept any of the past four series, they have won 8 of 12 games. If the Brewers win at that clip for the rest of the year, they will have 99 wins. Will you please tell me what is wrong with that?

I've said it a million times...its very hard in baseball to sweep a series...especially when three out of the last four series have come against playoff-caliber clubs.

I said it before and I'll say it again, exactly what special attributes does a team possess to be able to "put the other team away." It's just another game, COMPLETELY independant of the other games. You act like they don't have the heart or desire to sweep a team

Come on now, we get to hear enough tired baseball cliches from Schroeder, we don't need them here as well.

I was at the game as well. (Sect. 421, row 5, seat 5... I didn't pick out the seats, my friend did)

Santos was not sharp at all - he got hit hard. Santana was sharp, but once the shadows set in after the 3rd inning no one was hitting anyone - Santana, Kinney, Wise, Adams, until the 9th.

Speaking of the 9th, I think the umps had an early flight because Ginter and Moeller both got jobbed. Especially Ginter.

I'll take two out of three anytime, anywhere though.

So Counsell was able to score becuase of the error by Jones, yet it's still considered an earned run on Santana's line?

C Counsell hit for V Santos.

-Bottom of the 3rd inning

-C Counsell tripled to deep center, C Counsell scored on error by right fielder J Jones.

-S Podsednik struck out swinging.

-J Spivey flied out to center.

-G Jenkins grounded out to second.

No run shall be earned when the runner's advance is aided by an error, a passed ball, or defensive interference or obstruction, if the scorer judges that the run would not have scored without the aid of such misplay.

I don't recall if this was Spivey's fly out to deep center but if so Counsell would have scored on it. That's the only way it could be an earned run.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that... there were some *terrible* calls in that inning. The check swing for strike one on Ginter was laughable... he didn't even really swing, he twitched. And the strike zone, which had been tiny all day, suddenly got huge.

It didn't really matter, though. With Santana on his game like that, the Twins deserved to win and it would have taken quite a miracle comeback to tie the game against Nathan. They almost did it, and that was awesome, but Santana was just unreal today.

The Rockies and their 8-25 road record are in next. Nothing less than another two out of three is acceptable.

An 8-4 homestand would be just fine.

The most depressing thing about today's game is that the Crew will have to face Santana again next weekend. What is it with MLB and these "same team twice within ten day" series? I hate the back-to-back, although in this case, it's the interleague "super-matchup" and a bit more understandable.
