6/20/04 - Twins (Santana) @ Brewers (Santos)

JaNelson52

The Crew faces the type of pitcher today in Johan Santana that has given them fits in the past...a lefty with a mid-90's fastball and a devastating change up. Santana is 5th in the AL in strikeouts, and has a WHIP of 0.86 in his last four starts. The Brewers offense will have it's hands full.

Here's hoping Victor can outduel another ace today...

A win today by the Crew and a loss by Cincinnati, who faces Matt Morris and the Cardinals today, moves Milwaukee into third place in the Central...

We're going to have a helluva time scoring runs today. There's little doubt it's a matchup that favors the other team.

When we have a matchup that favors us, we lose. Maybe we can turn the tables on someone today.

Jenkins and Overbay will have to be on. And Santana is a guy you can't give up on. Just because he's in an early groove doesn't mean anything. He had a no-hitter through five against Tampa in a recent start, and the Rays touched him for four in the sixth to win the game. He's not a high pitch count guy, so you can chase him early if you can get him up near 100 pitches. He is a former long reliever, and I'm not sure Gardenhire is comfortable letting him throw a ton of pitches yet.

Wearing my heart on my sleeve since birth. Hopefully, it's my only crime.

Santana has been good as of late, and was incredible last year, but this is a guy that has a 1-2 5.65 ERA Away record this year, but then again victor hasn't been that much better with his 1-2 4.18 ERA Home record, I got a good feeling about this game though. GO CREW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any stathead's know the last time the Brewers were 5 games over .500??

Also, if the Brewers win it would be the first 3-game series win without a loss of the year. If they lose, it will be the 4th straight series in which they lose the final game after winning the first two (and the past 3 series finales have been ugly, poor hitting, inconsistent pitching).

In fact there have been eight times we won the first two games of the series, and all but one we lost the next game (the 2 game series win against Cincy included, we lost to Pit the next game).

Edit: After reading Toby's post, I euthanized the "s" word with a euphemism

4 hours later, I could the mistake TwinklesTheCrewFan caught. If the Brewers lose today, it's all on me.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif

I am all for taking pitches and plate discipline, but it seems to be backfiring on Keith Ginter. He always seems to be behind in the count and he ends up striking out too much.

Maybe he needs to be more aggressive earlier in the count rather than watching balls go right down the middle. Something has got to change.

Agreed, he's really struggling.

Could anyone tell me why Craig Counsell left the game, and what happened on the crew's scoring play?

I can't watch the game, because I'm at work, and my CBS gamecenter lists the play as such: "Counsell tripled to right, on right fielder Jones´ fielding error." Any account that would help me visualize this would be greatly appreciated

Craig didn't start, he PH for Santos. Hunter dove sideways in RC for the ball, it got by him to the wall, Jones backed it up but dropped the ball about 4 times trying to pick it up and Craig made it all the way around.
